England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Stornoway Grey
1st Year living with FL2

Just joined the group so thought I would post what I’ve experienced living with a FL2 thus far.

Bought 07 XS with a few additional options original owner had installed. Had CRV & X-Trail previously, FL2 head & shoulders better and enjoy every journey.
Mostly used on road but also need to go off the black stuff in course of job & hobby.

LR dealer pulled a fast-one with the spare, car had one of those solution / pump kits & no jack.
Only on receipt did I notice imprint of tyre in the boot well, dealer said another salesman must have swapped.
For peace of mind found a complete wheel & jack on fleabay and chucked solution kit !

Fitted DRL’s, I know some comments have been negative but I do believe it makes you more visible. I’ve certainly noticed that cars which were about to pull-out of a side road now don’t !
Either side of the lower grill is ideal and legal with supply being via relay controlled by side light circuit. Looks good too !!

I read a topic where the tailgate switch failed due to corrosion, same here but cleaning-up only lasted a short time before fault reoccurred. Made a brass plate to replace die-cast aluminium original and so far so good.

On tailgate issue, I put my 12g in the boot after a visit to the range and waiting for the pies to arrive. Opened tailgate only with fob and stupidly put fob on the boot floor, and yes you guessed it, closed tailgate with fob inside.
Both my wife’s and my mobiles inside car, air was somewhat blue.
Called AA on another’s mobile who got in to the car (without damage) after 3 minutes flat, although 2 hour wait for him to arrive.

I now have a replica / spare metal key that I keep in my wallet at all times, theory being that I would have this with me at all times at least, and let me get access via passenger door if I am ever daft enough to repeat.
Took LR key within fob to local locksmith who made spare for a few quid, I fitted / soldered a head from old Yale key so now total key is flat and fits in wallet fine.

Cheers.

The DRLs sound a great idea. Which ones did you fit and was it easy? A photo or two would be handy.

Good idea about the spare key. Very easy to leave the key on the boot floor and a major hassle to get back in.

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Baltic Blue

Hi Sand Ranger welcome to the forum, sure you will get lots of advice and ideas on here.
Mine came with the bottle of goo and no spare so got a matching alloy but didn't bother with the jack, if I need to change a wheel I'll phone the recovery company providing my phone isn't locked in the car ao course.
I have never locked my keys in the car..... Yet but who knows, I always make sure I have the fob in my hand before I close the boot.
Hope you continue to enjoy your Freelander as I and most on here do. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

English by birth..... Yorkshire by the grace of God.

Very easy to do, I have my keys on one of those belt loop clips (Dog Clips), make a point of removing them from the ignition and clipping them to the loop, just in case, same situation when I pick them up to go out, always clip them to the loop. Thumbs Up

It will be interesting to know how an AA man can get inside a locked car, without damage, in 3 minutes... Whistle Question
What about a thief? How quick can he get?...

Then it must have been single locked as the doors can be opened from the inside. Double locking won't allow that to happen.

Can't see a way to load pictures to this site and no public site to put photo, I'll try to describe.
Link to Halfords product below. Ring BRL0400 (Styling Lights)
www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet...yId_165688

12v relay required (Halfords again).
NC contacts, 1 to ignition live (I used piggy-back fuse on unused F37), 2 to DRL feed.
Relay coil fed from side-lights (Scotch connector).
Ground other side of relay and other side of DRL's
Needed to make a small bracket for DRL mount to bring it level.
Once you have brackets half hour job.

That's it.......
With ignition on, DRL's ON
With side lights on, DRL's OFF.

You could also take the coil feed off the relay for the DRL's to be on all the time when ignition is on, but that would be illegal at night wouldn't it ! Twisted Evil
