Just the two 10mm bolts to remove and pull the little lever at the back, not before marking where where the headlight is so it will not upset the beam height when you refit. |

Just fitted Halfords + 90% bulbs, both beams, with H7's and H 11's. Have to say I am very disappointed as I cannot say I notice much of a difference compared to the originals. To cap it all, despite the fact that I marked the position of the headlight brackets before I removed them, the main beam seems very low. Anyone got any tips on how to restore the main beam height? |

new bulbs rarly have the same spread pattern as the old one, you should get your lights re-aligned to suit the new bulbs,

GeorgeG, take the lights off and recheck you have them clipped into the bracket, then when you screw the bolts back in, push them back until you allign the old marks where the original bolts tightened. |

yes but the difference is in the bulbs themselves, source- an auto express test, they found the bulbs didn't always give a great improvement unless they where professionally re-aligned.

I made the same mistake here - BOTH my main beams were pointing only a few metres in front. I rechecked the seating of the bulbs in the reflector unit and found that the tabs were not locating properly, causing the bulb to be at a jaunty angle. Once I had discovered my mistake the beams were corrected Cheers, Raz FL1 TD4 GS Auto 2001 Silver FL2 TD4 Auto 2007 Black FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2012 Fuji White |

Thanks all for replies. Razman, I think you may be right. I will try re-seating the main beam bulbs. |

You were right RazMan. Main beam bulbs were not located properly. Now at least they are as good as the original bulbs! |

This is very odd; mine are still performing brilliantly. When I drove the loaner from my dealer a couple of weeks ago, the standard bulbs were completely unacceptable in comparison. I wonder why we've achieved such different results?! Infact, I pulled up outside a friend's house last night, just as he was pulling up in his X Type and he commented that my headlamps seemed bright and he didn't even know that I'd changed the bulbs (and yes, they are correctly aligned!) |

get the alignment checked if your not happy, as tigger says the bulbs should give a vast improvement, I moved from a xenon Audi to a halogen fl2 and regretted it until I upgraded the bulbs, still not as good as the xenons but not bad never the less.

Thanks Mcphersonstrut! Turning the bulbs through 180 degrees solved the problem - and I now have nice bright white LED sidelights! Regards, Geoff The map is not the territory 2011 TD4 GS Manual - Gone 2014 SD4 XS Auto - Gone 2018 Jaguar E-Pace R-Dynamic 180 AWD |
