Not a bad idea; I'm probably going back to boost their profits by buying the main beam lamps too! Rolling Eyes

Okay, we have a test result! I've fitted the Halford Extremes that were recommended in the article and I've just been out to test them....

This has completely transformed the dipped beam in the car Shocked It used to be that turning on the front fog lamps made a huge difference to the light output on dark lanes, now there's very little difference whether they are switched on or not.

The light from the new bulbs is much brighter and much whiter; now, when I switch to main beam, the original main beam bulbs look woefully inadequate. And a nasty yellow colour! The edge of the beam from the projector is also much less blurred.

My other car, a 2010 Focus (with Xenons and projector lamps) has the best headlamps that I've ever used. These bulbs have closed the gap by around 75% Shocked

This is the best £27.99 I've ever spent on an upgrade.

I fitted a pair of Halfords Extreme H11 bulbs this morning and having just tired them I have to agree with Tigger that they do make a noticeble difference when compared to the factory fit bulbs.

The only problem now is the side lights look yellow compared to the dipped beam. Can anyone recommend some replacement side light bulbs that produce a whiter light output.

Mark, you can get W5W sidelight lamps with a blue coating, these are the same colour as the new hi pwer halogens. Don't let the blue colour put you off when they are lit they appear white. Thumbs Up

Interesting Tigger, either your perception of brightness is different to mine or my choice of 'Osrams' were incorrect as I never noticed that big of improvement.
I may revisit and look into Halfords in future.

I chose the bulbs as a result of this test, which includes your Osrams, you may find the results interesting:

Where can I pick a set of the W5W side lights from and roughly how much should I expect to pay as don't want to get ripped off,

Looks like I will be going for the halfords bulbs unless I can source a Phillips outlet around here that offers discount

Go on the auction website and type in W5W or W5W LED. Std bulbs start at £0.99p delivered so your not going to get ripped off Laughing . If you go for LED you need the canbus type so just type in that word with the bulb Thumbs Up

Took mine in for service today and had a loaner with the pre facelift standard Halogen lamps. Drove back to the dealer in the dark and even the pre-facelift headlamps (which are usually reported to be better) are completely hopeless with the standard bulbs! Shocked

Swapped back to mine and what an improvement! Thumbs Up
