For once the dealer, 15k or 12 months, the service message if it was set correctly at the previous service, if you have had one it will either tell you in day's if close to the 11 months or miles if close to the 15k. |

I've only put 4500 miles on mine (7500 total miles on the ODO, and a year old this month) since the last oil change, and my dealer is telling me it's time for the 12 month service.

Mine (MY11) came up about a month ago and indicated it needed a service in 28 days which indicates that the system was activated about 2 weeks before I took delivery. About four days before it went in for its service I had a second warning come up telling me it was due an oil service. My previous 07 model also had the service due in X days indication.

Thanks to all for the replies. I'm still confused and do wonder if the dealers are right or just looking for extra work, hence income. The service portfolio booklet that came with my car clearly states:

My 2008 FL2 handbook stated 1year or 15000 miles which ever comes first.

The supplying dealer should be able to get info either off their computer (if they supplied the car) or off the supplying dealer if different. If they are a Landrover dealer they presumably sold it with full warranty, which will cover you for a year and should be renewable. It might be wise to get this in writing from them. Dealers are actually very poor at filling in the warranty books. The last two cars I have bought, one from Park Royal and one in Bedford, did not have the book filled in but in both cases they checked on their computer, "confirmed the service had been carried out" and filled in the book. Too late for you, I fear, but it's essential to check the service history when buying. In this case if the service hsn't been completed a huge discount would have been in order, so the dewaler owes you a few freebies (how about an extra year's warranty, for example?). |

The one in Bedford must be getting better. Recently had mine serviced by them and not only was the service record filled in but they went through all the paperwork with a fine toothcomb and explained everything to me. But that was the Service Dept and not Sales. |

I had my fourth service done by them, as I had bought the car there and agree, the service dept were fine (although not cheap and they weren't that keen to give me a loan car).

More than happy to give me a loan car, had to wait about 3 days to have service done with loan car and it would have been £10 to reduce the insurance excess from £1000 to £100 had I not been covered under my own policy for loan cars.

For $350.00 they: Change the oil and pollen filter, top off fluids, Check the tires and brakes, reset the service indicator......$350 for 7500 miles I am able to do all of the items on their checklist. If I'm not mistaken, at least in the USA, it is illegal for a dealer to deny warranty service simply because either you or another shop completed the routine work. Routine work would include things such as: Oil changes, pollen filter changes, topping off fluids, brake pad inspection/replacement, belt replacement and the like. This shall not void the warranty, even if the dealer says otherwise. In addition, using aftermarket replacement parts for routine work will not void the warranty. I believe this was set forth by the Federal Trade Commission, but I don't have specific quotes of the law. I believe that keeping accurate records and receipts would be prudent. Not sure if you lot in the UK have a similar law, but it would be worth looking into if you are able to do your own work. |

Here in the UK you can get any VAT registered garage to do the work, as long as they use genuine parts warranty conditions are not breached, so it rules out home servicing for us if we want to keep our warranty. |
