United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Biscay Blue
2010 my Service Interval

Can someone please throw some light on what appears to be a cloudy area.....

The service book that came with my car seems to show that the service is due when the on-board computer tells you it is due. No mention here of mileage covered or 'every 12 months' etc.

The dealer says it is every 15k miles or 12 months, whichever comes first.

Who is right? Confused 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

For once the dealer, 15k or 12 months, the service message if it was set correctly at the previous service, if you have had one it will either tell you in day's if close to the 11 months or miles if close to the 15k.

I've only put 4500 miles on mine (7500 total miles on the ODO, and a year old this month) since the last oil change, and my dealer is telling me it's time for the 12 month service.

I think it's silly to fork out cash for a "service" on a vehicle with so few miles.

Mine (MY11) came up about a month ago and indicated it needed a service in 28 days which indicates that the system was activated about 2 weeks before I took delivery. About four days before it went in for its service I had a second warning come up telling me it was due an oil service. My previous 07 model also had the service due in X days indication.

Zoey: The service interval for a Freelander 2 is 12 months or 15000 miles. It will invalidate your warranty if you do not have a service carried out in accordance with the manufacturers requirements. The service includes a check of the car, brakes, tyres etc and installation of any updates.

Thanks to all for the replies. I'm still confused and do wonder if the dealers are right or just looking for extra work, hence income. The service portfolio booklet that came with my car clearly states:

"Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery 4/LR4 and Freelander 2 all have a Service Interval Indicator in the instrument pack. When a service is required it will be indicated in the message centre when the starter switch is turned on. Arduous Conditions service schedules are not displayed in the message centre."

The service interval table that includes all LR models again clearly states "Refer to your service interval indicator".

I am asking the question as my 2010 my HSE had its first service at 22k according to the service record. I am trying to find out from the previous registered keeper (Enterprise Rent-a-Car) if they serviced it at all but at the moment they seem to think the car is a living person and will not tell me because of the Data Protection Act!

The Dealers are correct. If you look on http://www.landrover.com/gb/en/lr/owners/s...ervicing/. It clearly states that the service interval for a Freelander 2 is 12 months.

The service level indicator is designed to start displaying a numerical figure about 28 days before a service is due. In an ideal world this would be 12 months minus 28 days from when the last service was carried out or in the case of a new vehicle from when the system was first activated. Sometimes, particularly if the servce was carried out by a non-franchised dealer the service interval indicator might not be reset correctly.

If you have the service record book it should state in it that an A Service was conducted at 22000 miles on a particular date. If that date is less than 12 months ago then your car does not need a service unless you've done more than 15000 miles since it was last serviced. If it was more than 12 months ago then I suspect the service interval indicator has not been reset and you need a service.

Hope that is of some help?

R

Thanks for that, it has helped. My service record shows the vehicle was serviced on 09/09/11 for, apparently, the first time! Considering the vehicle was first registered on 30/04/09 you can imagine my concern. I am in discussion with the supplying dealer at the moment so hope to sort something out. 2010 HSE TD4 auto, Biscay Blue, Almond Leather, facelift front and rear, detachable towbar, front & rear mudflaps, bib spoilers, clear high level brake light, smooth rear wiper, colour coded door handles.

My 2008 FL2 handbook stated 1year or 15000 miles which ever comes first.
My 2011 FL2 handbook stated see service indicator.
Car is 1 year old on 30th November and yesterday display showed "oil service due contact your dealer" they have already been pestering me with phone calls. I bet they have forgotten that this one is FOC due to the muck up (being polite) they made of a simple warranty repair. Land Rover time for job 3.6hours, they took 5 days and a further 3 days to correct faulty workmanship. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

The supplying dealer should be able to get info either off their computer (if they supplied the car) or off the supplying dealer if different. If they are a Landrover dealer they presumably sold it with full warranty, which will cover you for a year and should be renewable. It might be wise to get this in writing from them.
Dealers are actually very poor at filling in the warranty books. The last two cars I have bought, one from Park Royal and one in Bedford, did not have the book filled in but in both cases they checked on their computer, "confirmed the service had been carried out" and filled in the book.
Too late for you, I fear, but it's essential to check the service history when buying. In this case if the service hsn't been completed a huge discount would have been in order, so the dewaler owes you a few freebies (how about an extra year's warranty, for example?).

The one in Bedford must be getting better. Recently had mine serviced by them and not only was the service record filled in but they went through all the paperwork with a fine toothcomb and explained everything to me. But that was the Service Dept and not Sales.

I had my fourth service done by them, as I had bought the car there and agree, the service dept were fine (although not cheap and they weren't that keen to give me a loan car).
I was quite happy with sales as well - the salesman was a bit shaky on some of the controls, but helpful, and their prices seemed to be lower than other people's, perhaps because the car I bought was a recent trade-in and had not originally been supplied by them.

More than happy to give me a loan car, had to wait about 3 days to have service done with loan car and it would have been £10 to reduce the insurance excess from £1000 to £100 had I not been covered under my own policy for loan cars.

Agree they have quite a good reputation in sales and I know they do quite a lot of long distance sales.

For $350.00 they: Change the oil and pollen filter, top off fluids, Check the tires and brakes, reset the service indicator......$350 for 7500 miles Rolling Eyes

I am able to do all of the items on their checklist. If I'm not mistaken, at least in the USA, it is illegal for a dealer to deny warranty service simply because either you or another shop completed the routine work. Routine work would include things such as: Oil changes, pollen filter changes, topping off fluids, brake pad inspection/replacement, belt replacement and the like.

This shall not void the warranty, even if the dealer says otherwise. In addition, using aftermarket replacement parts for routine work will not void the warranty. I believe this was set forth by the Federal Trade Commission, but I don't have specific quotes of the law.

I believe that keeping accurate records and receipts would be prudent.

Not sure if you lot in the UK have a similar law, but it would be worth looking into if you are able to do your own work.

Here in the UK you can get any VAT registered garage to do the work, as long as they use genuine parts warranty conditions are not breached, so it rules out home servicing for us if we want to keep our warranty.
