Hi Graeme in what respect do you ask? Do you mean on a snowy road in traffic - if so it puts the car in 4wd, alters throttle response and generally tries to stop you doing things that would cause the wheels to spin etc. Try and avoid using the terrain response settings when the conditions don't require it. I'd recomend going on one of the LR experience sessions if you can - the cheapest quick experience is at the Gaydon Motor Heritage centre near Banbury. £5 (£7 weekends) for a 20 minute hoot up and down and around and around a special off road experience - very knowledgeable instructor too |

Gives you slightly less responsive throttle so you don't end up over-revving and using the expensive diesel 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual 2010 Jaguar XF |

Seeing Graeme has a manual it will be a first if it starts in second when he's in first |

Mine has always started off in second, even with the Terrain Response off, the only way mine uses first is in command shift if I pull the stick, I did query this at the first service and they said it was normal. The only other time it uses first is on a hill start when towing, it will try second then drops to first. |

Mine starts in first every time in 'normal mode', starts in second in 'sport mode' unless I shift in to first in 'command mode'.

HDC will only come on below a certain speed, even if you switch it on until you drop below that speed it will not kick in (unless the software is faulty), it will also eat away your pads at a very high rate, so only use it when required (ie on a very steep slope)

Dave, no, it always pulls away in second, as for Sport Mode, to be honest I never use it, Sd4 like you that's I know that when in command shift it displays second and pull the stick for first and it's like engaging crawler, hence I know that in auto I'm in second, but as I say when with the van on a hill it will start to pull away in second but immediately drops to first when required. If I really gun it, pedal on the floor then it will engage first but for normal refined auto driving it will pull away in second. As mentioned earlier, they said at the first service it was normal, they did explain that it will choose what gear depending on a number of things, throttle position etc, I don't have a problem with it. As for the Auto box, can't go back to a manual now, Auto and Freelander 2 = Peaches and Cream I must have had some odd Freely's because on my manual one, I know what the book says about HDC but mine worked in second also, but the other gears it would say HDC not available. |

Oh! I know mine always pulls away in first because I can hear the faint whine of the first gear. To be honest I would prefer it to pull away in second as it's more than capable and 95% of the time there's only me in the car. I know I have the latest updates and more than likely you have too, wonder why there's a difference I agree, Auto and Freelander 2 = CG's Scones and Jam |
