Hi,

Not an owner yet but expect to be soon.

I will never take the car off road but will look after it very well!

My experience with the Rover I drive now is that a great forum is essential and this seems the best one I could find.

So hi everyone!

Hi all,
I've been looking in on the site for a while now and bought my HSE about 4 months ago.
Very impressed with all the information here and how helpful everyone seems to be.
So far the car has been great and a real pleasure to drive.

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Bali Blue

Hi Everybody

Thought it was time to join..been a 'guest' for sometime now, I have recently collected my third FL2 first was a HST....very nice...second was a HSE...even nicer...now I've got a SD4 HSE...simply superb, colour is stunning Bali Blue with ebony leather interior...last two were stornoway...

Spent most of my working life (30+ yrs Sad ) designing and engineering systems for cars for a number of major automotives...only comments I would make about the FL2 is the build quality 'ain't that bad' i've seen far worse on some alleged premium German brands...it may be a bit overpriced but cars are priced and sold to the market, as for the Freelander being pulled from production, why would JLR do that most of the high investment tooling and equipment for FL2 will have been amortised out of the cost so margin acheived on FL2 will be very atractive even in lower volumes.

Look forward to some happy banter and possibly some helpful info.. Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Hi All

Used to be a RR owner a couple of decades ago in Qatar and Saudi.
Since then must admit to straying far from the fold; with Suzukis, Subarus, Chevys, Fourtraks, N-Patrols, LCrs of various vintage in between. The last being a great Pajero called Harry....

Regret, Harry was last heard of press-ganged to join the rebels in Libya.
As a result, have now rejoined the LR clan with a 07plate-HSE-FL2 a month ago.

Hoping to make good use of the forum,
Cheers and Good Luck to All

Hi!
Just bought a manual 2010 TD4e HSE from Matford Landrover, Exeter. It was the only nearly new manual gearbox one listed in the entire Land Rover approved listings for the UK that came with roof rails. Absolutely delighted with it tho have yet to work out which blue it is (I'd call it a Royal Blue)

Downsizing from a VW California Campervan is taking a bit of getting used to but getting this is a pleasant consolation so far & at least I can now just roll out of the seat rather than dropping down a foot or so. Now fully shod on new Pirelli Scorpions it's a delight to drive!

Hi Mike

What a coincidence - I have downsized from a California which I bought new 4 years ago. Used the proceeds (don't they hold their value well) to buy a new SD4 HSE. Well I had to chop in my old Forester as well. The idea is to use the FL2 to tow a caravan as a replacement for the camper. The advantage is that you don't have to lug all that metal around every time you go anywhere from the camp site.

I see you are in Devon. Did you get the Cali from Carrs in Exeter? I found them an excellent dealer compared with dreadful VW car dealers I have experienced over the years.

Still miss the California in many ways. I'm sure I will take a massive hit in depreciation compared to the Cali when it's time to change.

Hi George G ... sorry I missed your post on 18 October!

Didn't get the Cali from Carrs but they did all my servicing & yes excellent with a resident Cali expert! Still twitchy about giving up the Cali ... no time to use ... but the Freelander 2 is doing very well so far & great to drive. (btw, had VW estates before & found Man Eggerton in Exeter also very good.)

France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Narvik Black

Hi Guys,

Just bought my first Freelander 2, a 2007 HSE manual with 28,000 on the clock and here it is:-

Here is what it replaced:-

I had owned the TD5 Defender for 10 years, knew every nut and bolt on it and had been a lot of places in it including up the Matterhorn, the Tatri mountains in Slovakia and the the French Massif Central (lockers and and a lot of armour helped!). However, my hardcore off roading days are gone and I needed a bit more comfort and the ability to carry passengers. I thought about a Range Rover or Disco but the running costs are horrible on them. So far the Freelander has been great and is averaging 37 mpg with 42 on a run. It has a few more bells and whistles than the Defender so I am still learning about them with the help of the very thick owners manual!

I am a member of 4x4 Response and it remains to be seen how well the Freelanders performs in the snow....hope other members don't have to come and rescue me :(

Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Mr. Green  John

Triumph Rocket 111 (sadly gone!)

Hi John,

Very nice ... & impressive mpg figures as well! I have just got a 2010 TD4e HSE, 18k miles & struggle to get anywhere near such excellent mpg! What speed do you cruise at on motorways? I find mpg takes quite a nosedive anything over 70 mph.

re your comments on snow ... after a good deal of reading up on other's experiences I've gone for winter tyres (Avon Ranger Ice ... due in in a day or so & about the only decent make still available fairly immediately). For some reason, the Daily Express is very keen to print dire warningss about forthcoming winter weather & today again made a big deal of this on the front page.
