Every dealer is scared of taking a Freelander into stock at anything like a sensible price so be warned if you are trying to sell one!

I think they are pulling your chain there, fl2's are holding their cash very well, summer isnt an ideal selling time maybe, and the fuel price is putting people off, owever the fuel price could well push folks away from D3's, RRS's etc so fl2 prices should be ok At work

Sorry they are not holding their value. You may wish and hope that they are but try selling yours and see how you get on! Don't look up the price guides and assume that is what your car is worth. I tried all over the UK to sell mine and got the same result, over stocked, can't shift them at this time of year can't give you more than £14k! Yes my car was high mileage and I was not buying another one so the price was never going to be the same as trading it in but even so the prices offered were in reality a joke given the prices the same dealers are trying to sell them at! If they were selling cars like mine at £16k I wouldn't have such an issue. As an example of just how much prices have fallen, in November last year I considered trading mine in for a new HSE and was offered £21k. About 6 weeks ago I was offered £17k and today less than £15k. There is another thread on here somewhere about the low price someone else was offered as a trade in and this was a young car. Maybe come the next snowfall prices will rise again or at least stabilise but trust me at the moment they are in freefall.

Dunno CG, too many people on here that have been selling their FL2's have been complaining about poor prices.

I think if diesel prices rise, and it's said they will, it will see the end of many a LR driver. I got the pleasure of filling up both our LR's last week. Okay, they hadn't been filled for a week to 10 days, but it was just leisure driving locally, not even commuting. It came to 170 squid! Makes you think! Wasn't that long ago that would have been a good weekly wage for someone. Also I'd been thinking of visiting the Old Dear, she lives 340 miles round trip. Thats roughly 10 gallons or 46 litres x 1.38 a litre = 64 squid. Now if you told me to buy an eco version of some of our everyday cars at 60-70mpg, then you half the diesel bill.

Put it another way, 10k miles a year in a FL2 = 1,760 squid. Go to a blue eco motion thing at 60-70mpg and save 880 quid a year. It's a lot of dosh for people on pensions or a budget. Plus you pay a higher rate of excise so thats 225 over perhasps a zero rated thing, higher insurance costs, possibly double, another 200 quid saved, higher servicing costs another 150 saved, higher purchase price, at least 10k. my contract hire 08 plate HSE with bodykit 37000 miles was for sale at a non-LR dealership for £24K in April - and it sold within a week!!!!

Mileage was probably the reason for your low price, LR dealers dont often sell high milers as the odds of something going wrong are quite high, even though I am sure the TD4 engine can manage 100k+

The facts speak for themselves. I saw a 54k miles HSE like mine advertised at £21k. So yes my car was high mileage but not that excessive and in may ways it was probably a better car than the ones that have done 20k and been used to potter to the shops or used offroad! It was not only Landrover dealers who didn't want it I tried specialists too. People still get put off by mileage which these days is far less important than condition and service record and trying to sell privately is a nightmare. At the end of the day you can only lose money on a car and it is usually much more than you expect or are led to believe when you buy it!! I read with some amusemet the posts where the sales guy persuades a buyer to purchase a certain colour combination as it will be a ded cert to hold its value and easy to sell! They are all trained to do this they are doing you no favours, just wait until you take it back after a few years! .... oh there is no demand for that colour/ spec etc now sir!!! I have seen it done so often.

Anyway my Landrover days are probably over but no doubt like everyone else I will buy something else in the future and go through the same sad story all over again!

Bye.

I too have noticed the drop in prices. Given the long hot period we have had it is not surprising that the 4x4's have seen a drop, everyone has forgotten that is was only us getting around for months over Xmas and are now looking for little cheap runarounds. To be honest, I think the prices of the new look Freelanders and especially the SD versions are and were overpriced. They had a slight revamp, did away with the SE model and bumped prices across the range by a ridiculous amount meaning the gap between the trade in and the new was a joke. I am not saying there wasn't some good deals done, and when the used prices were higher (snow around) I think upgrading was an option, but now, with cars like "cumbria's" going for such a poor price, surely the 4x4 market is heading for hard times.....Again.

BUT, it doesn't really matter to those of us who have the car because we love it and enjoy the drive. I never bought mine thinking it would hold its value, its a car and they lose money from the moment you drive them away from the showroom.

The joy is in the wanting to go out and drive it just because its soo damn good!........Now that's what owning a car is all about. Very Happy Very Happy

Sorry to hear about the sciatica mate. Sad

Crying or Very sad your right and this is the last straw! I am off to find some razor blades or a short piece of rope, especially as I've had Sciatica for the last 3 days and the Zydol 50mg and Ibuprofen 400mg aint working!

I'm guessing that you're going to cut your legs off with the razor blades and then use the rope as a tourniquet Question ______________________
