WD40 for the wing mirrors?

Both my wing mirrors have started creaking, juddering and squeaking when opening and closing.

Would you guys recommend deploying some WD40 to try and sort it out?

If not, what would you recommend instead? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Had exactly the same problem with my drivers side mirror. Quick spray with a mixture of WD40 and some spray on grease has done the job for the moment. Will get Dealer to do it properly when it goes in for its 1st Service next month.
Used WD40 on my old 07 SE and it cured the problem once and for all.

IMHO Silicone spray is the way forward, WD40 tends to dry out...

Quite a few specific sprays in the 3 in 1 family. Available on line at loads of places. Thumbs Up 57 HSE AUTO with H.I.D's - Grey with Black leather. (H.S.E. Heightadjustable Seats Extra Sad )

creaky mirrors

Silicone spray is the best option, but if like me, you have a creaking mirror and only WD40 to hand,then give it a squirt. That should calm the judders and squeaks down until you get some more silicone spray.

Update! I was in B&Q on wrinkly day, last week, and while there, i spotted some of the 3 in 1 silicone spray as mentioned by Gusmagoo. I bought some and gave the mirrors a good spray into the pivot gap. Any excess can be spread over the mirror casing with a dry tissue, gives a nice finish. Anyway, the mirrors now fold so quietly, that if i am at the rear, i have to look and check they have actually folded. Very Happy

By all means, use WD40 to clean the area, but don't rely on it to do the job you want for long. Ultimately you nedd to use lubricant that doesn't drain away oor evaporate. Such as PTFE or lithium spray, or vaseline!

WD = water dispersant.
Which won't last long.

If you've nothing else, use Pledge.
It really does work. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

The best all purpose maintenance spray money can buy is ACF 50, it is an aviation spray that is now the standard secret weapon of anybody ( like me) who wants to keep all the glittering expensive anodised bits of motorbikes in that condition 12 months a year and also wants a spray that lubricates/displaces water/kills salt corrosion without damaging fairing plastics ( you think landrover spares are pricey - try Aprilia Big Cry ). Also unlike WD40 when you get it on hot bits it does not leave a brown nasty residue when it burns off

Ok it is 5 times the cost of WD40 but it really is the Dogs B.....s

Have a look on the internet for a link, I even think Halfords might be stocking it now
