Both my wing mirrors have started creaking, juddering and squeaking when opening and closing.

Had exactly the same problem with my drivers side mirror. Quick spray with a mixture of WD40 and some spray on grease has done the job for the moment. Will get Dealer to do it properly when it goes in for its 1st Service next month.

IMHO Silicone spray is the way forward, WD40 tends to dry out...

Silicone spray is the best option, but if like me, you have a creaking mirror and only WD40 to hand, then give it a squirt. That should calm the judders and squeaks down until you get some more silicone spray.

By all means, use WD40 to clean the area, but don't rely on it to do the job you want for long. Ultimately you nedd to use lubricant that doesn't drain away oor evaporate. Such as PTFE or lithium spray, or vaseline! |

The best all purpose maintenance spray money can buy is ACF 50, it is an aviation spray that is now the standard secret weapon of anybody ( like me) who wants to keep all the glittering expensive anodised bits of motorbikes in that condition 12 months a year and also wants a spray that lubricates/displaces water/kills salt corrosion without damaging fairing plastics ( you think landrover spares are pricey - try Aprilia |
