Does anyone know how to test the battery? I would like to know if it is up to the job when the colder weather sets in. I have volt meters but nothing more technicle.

Pay a very careful attention when changing the battery!!
Some of them are AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries that should not be replaced with wet/flooded batteries.
The car is configured for the type of the battery.

Here is what LR says about batteries:

Before replacing any battery on the vehicle, identify the battery type by looking at the top adhesive label.
All AGM batteries are recognizable by the words AGM and/or VRLA on the top label.
If the battery is of the AGM type, then it shall be replaced only with another AGM type battery, and NEVER with a flooded type battery. Replacing AGM batteries with flooded batteries may cause unwanted discharge and quality issues on the vehicle.
If the battery on the vehicle is of the flooded type, then it shall be replaced only with another flooded battery, and NEVER with an AGM type battery. Replacing flooded batteries with AGM batteries may cause malfunction of the charging system due to a wrong sensor calibration.

Yes, AGM batteries are more uniform, from voltage point of view, across the whole range of temperatures and their voltage's requirements varies less than wet/flooded batteries.
See https://www.freel2.com/gallery/albums/user...p_comp.jpg
Therefore the charging voltages programmed into the engine ECU (who controls the battery charging) differs according with the battery type stored into the CCF (car configuration file) and if you switch one with another you may end up with either a not enough charged battery or a too charged battery which both will shorten the battery life.

Reading this post, I have to share my experience with the battery. I have an petrol model and at about 70.000Km (2,5 years) the original battery died. The dealer checked all the codes and I had the battery replaced under warranty. When I saw the new battery was a wet/ flooded one with all Landrover logos and information on it. I was told that was equivalent with the original. To make the long story short, less than a year after, the wet battery died, so I replaced it with a AGM one (out of warranty)
As Alex indicated wet batteries they behave in a different way from the wet ones, and the theory behind that proved to be true.

cheers for the info everyone,

i called at the lr dealer this morn for the info and priced up the original replacement for £97 in the end.

There were cheaperbatterie available aftermarket but i thought that i minimise the failure risk by sticking with what lr equip

Also found the receipt for the old battery and got my money back...good times Thumbs Up
