I've noticed my DSC fault light comes on when off-roading (usually when loosing traction while climbing hills). Is this normal? The fault light goes off after the car regains traction. Installed a hitch, stock roof rack, mantec skid plates, General Grabbers AT2 255/60/R18, and a rear access ladder. Also made a hitch-mount for the winch. Looking to install a front hitch, rooft-top basket, and lift kit.

If you are on sand then turn the DSC off, it just gets in the way and kicks in right when you don't want it. |

not a fault light, its loss of traction indicator to tell you your spinning the wheels

I've never completely understood that. In fact I recently asked a question about this over on landroversonly: http://www.landroversonly.com/forums/f41/q...post406271 It sounds like DSC focuses on maintaining control while cornering. It does this by reducing engine power and breaking the outside wheels. Turning it off when in a terrain response mode turns off the engine power reduction component. Wheel breaking of slipping wheels still occurs through ETC. Is the only reason to turn DSC off to maximize engine power? Would one ever want to turn off ETC in sandy conditions? If so, why? It seems like breaking the slipping wheel is almost universally a good thing. Installed a hitch, stock roof rack, mantec skid plates, General Grabbers AT2 255/60/R18, and a rear access ladder. Also made a hitch-mount for the winch. Looking to install a front hitch, rooft-top basket, and lift kit. Tracking modifications and off-road experiences here: http://sam.odio.com/lr2/ |

On (soft) sand you can very quick loose momentum because of the braking effect that sand has on a car.

You get half way up a dune and lose all power to every wheel and all your momentum. Trust me, give it a go and you will understand. It happens under really heavy load. |
