A small prologue to the second edition of JCI Play 4x4 that will take place on November 20.
In this small teaser trailer, my FL2 is one of the stars , on a very slippery sand-gravel mix terain...
Seemed easy at first but it wasn't.... Still, no problem and after a couple of tries, we went on....

Street tires? Maybe some ATs or MTs would have helped, i guess...

And at 0:32 where you are with the back wheels on top of the slope, my guess is that a harder acceleration would have pushed the car over the obstacle in the first try, due to a bigger impulse. But videos can be misleading, you know better how the terrain was!

I still wait for some 16" steel rims to come around in order to finally buy some proper off-road tires, as on 16" size are plenty of them. I thought that I would also find on 17", but I was wrong... Much less to choose from...
And yes, until the end some bigger impulse solved the impasse, but I was circumspect in the first place as some rocks were showing their "teeths" from the ground.
Although, the GGS mode together with the DSC off and a progressive throttle would have the same effect.
But in the same time it's nice to learn the limits of the car's systems in default mode.

Alex, as a side question - what tires are you planning on buying? Do you know if larger tires can be mounted so that the ground clearance is increased? What would be a "maximum" without having any issues?

I though about 235/70/16 or 225/75/16 or even 245/70/16.
BFG All Terrain T/A KO or maybe a more agressive BFG Mud Terrain T/A KM2.

From what I've seen, the KM2 is available in 245/75/R16. Do you think this would be too large?

Compared to the standard 235/60/R18, the KM2 would have 34mm extra in diameter, so this would roughly mean increasing the ground clearance by 17mm. However, I am not sure if they fit, at least in my case (SD4, HSE).

Any opinion on these?

And neither for size, I don't think that they will be a problem. FL2's wheel arches are generously designed...
But I will see when I will get my hands on some proper steel wheels.
And those 17mm are theoretical and will be less than that in reality because of the static loading.

Scroll down a little and see the "Static loaded radius, outer diameter and rolling circumference" paragraph.

The tyres might fit when the car is going straight but will possibly rub somewhere when the steering or suspension is at full stretch. Interesting to actually know the limit though, but someone has to pay the dollars to experiment. Nice shots, looked like good fun.
