Aux (iPod) input socket - plug snapped off

I'm not overly impressed with the position of the aux input socket in the FL2, i.e. oriented vertically and in the area between the front seats where kids are regularly clambering through. It took about a month before a jackplug got snapped off in the socket Mad .

Any tips on how I might be able to fix this? It's only the tip of the plug that is snapped off, so there's no obvious way of grabbing it to pull it out...

Cheers,
Gareth

I'd be tempted to use a pin with a large head/small nail and a tiny amount of contact adhesive to join it to the broken plug. once carefully applied and fully bonded use a pair of pliers. Antone else??

i am presuming its not protruding out of the socket enough for you to grab it with a set of pincers Question

If not, maybe a small piece of wire with a tiny spot of super glue on the end to glue to the snapped off plug

I think the rear audio controls clip out too, which maybe enable you to get the the socket and push the bit out from below or at the worst replace it.

You can find out how to remove the rear audio control at the Land Rovers Owners Info page for "Accessory Fitting" for the "Fitting Instruction - Rear Screen Connectivity System UK" as you have to remove them the install that.

Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like the rear audio controls do pop out, although those instructions don't really show how. I'll see if I can work it out, then try the super-glue trick - could take some explaining if that goes wrong Smile

Gareth

Hi,

CBA sorting that one out when there is still the oil smell issue outstanding. It's way down the list for now...

Cheers,
Gareth

I'm still (intermittently) struggling with this. I have tried the superglue approach, and tweezers, but still can't get the offending item out of the socket.

I accessed the fitting instructions mentioned above but they don't really give any indication how to release the rear audio controls. If anyone has any tips on how this can be done I'd greatly appreciate them. Having had a few attempts I certainly can't find any wasy to do it.

Thanks,
Gareth

Been out to the car to look Shocked

Process is......

Rear tray, below the controls, Small screw driver, down front edge 1cm in is a clip (both sides) release these(might need to keep a wedge in to stop them reclipping back in), then prise the tray out upwards from each side as there are clips underneith at the rear at each side (spring type clips)

Put hand up underneath and push audio control out as it is only fitted by retaining springs

I hope it helps, took me 2 minutes using a screwdriver on my leatherman micro, so

I can take pics later if required Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Can't believe you did that Thumbs Up

You're basically describing what I have been trying, but I'm probably too worried I'm going to snap something. Now I know the method is correct I'll give it another go (when the missus brings the car back anyway).

Thanks,
Gareth

All fixed Very Happy

Followed the procedure as outlined above (with newfound confidence), then managed to disconnect and pop out the socket itself. After an evening of highly frustrating digging with tweezers, the tip off the plug eventually came out. It all flew back together in no time.

Many many thanks for your help on this Bow down

Cheers,
Gareth
