I collect vehicle reliability data. The Freelander2 / LR2 isn't included yet, because not enough are signed up.

Don't worry about reliability, yes their has been a few! problems but the cars are quite reliant on technology and technology requires the occasional software update.

Forums are a great resource for owners and the makers alike - one thing you can bet is that somewhere in the Land Rover Empire there is a corner where somebody is paid to monitor all the Freelander2 forums to see what problems are coming up - then when you go to your local dealer they will be genned up ( although judging by some dealers' reputations it is more likely that you will be better informed than the dealers techy guys!!!) but if you have a problem that they cannot deal with to your satisfaction owners forums are fantastic because if you use the "search" tool you often find that somebody else before you ahs had the same problem and has posted details of how it was fixed. The sister sites to this, www.RRSport.co.uk and www.Disco3.co.uk have now been running for 3 -4 years and have a fantastic Technical database between them for TDv6 owners - there are now 1609 members of RRSport and 3400 members of Disco3 to share experiences and with something like 250,000 posts on D3 a lot of experiences with the car too! I agree with you Tim, but have you ever had to use LR Assistance in your neck of the woods?

Freebo your money is safe my friend.......I have 13K under my belt in a manual, and 6K (all miles) in my Sept 07 auto and never once have they left me at the road side...so reliability , stupid niggles.... but these were on my early manual and they always say expect issues with first batch release cars........my auto was supplied 9 months into the FL2 birth year and my issues to date are.......I keep smiling like a syncronized swimmer, but worse a trim plate unstuck itself and my rear n/side light lense has some condensation...........ohhh the shame!!!!! ohhh the pity!!!!!!!!! BUT OHHHHHHH!!!!! what a fantastic motor.

I too was concerned about the reliability but have now clocked up 9000 trouble free miles (tell a lie, i did have the squeeky folding mirror syndrome for a couple of days but all it was was grit between the two faces and a wash down cured it so not really a problem) ~ i love driving my FL2, it reminds me that life is not too bad after all. Go for it and enjoy it. GS with the Leather Pack ~ Zermatt Silver |

Yes Chris - three times, twice in my own area and once when I was at the other end of the UK. First time was with a parted V belt on a Td5 Disco2 (ironincally I was taking to the dealer to collect my new Freelander 1..........) LRA took about 15 minutes to arrive and as there had been a whole load of seized pulley wheels reported the techy wouldn't fix the belt on the spot and towed the car into the dealer and couldn't understand that I didn't need a rental car arranged! You don't ever want to drive any of the bigger land Rovers with no power steering. Heavy, you bet! Second time I had been offroading my Freelander1 TD4 Automatic on the Ridgeway and around Avebury with the Freelander Club guys. If performed faultlessly and I drove a very dirty White Gold Freebie to Warsash to the accommodation that I was booked into for the next week. One evening I took the car to the local pressure washer and cleaned it but when I drove away I had an annoying squeaking from one of the rear brakes. I didn't do anything about it and at the end of my training course I drove to Sway in the New Forest where I was to going to have a week of holidays in the Forest before driving north to Scotland. One afternoon I was out at Calshott Spit and the howling from the brakes was just too annoying to be driving 460 mile north with so I called LRA again. I was told that it would be a while before anybody could attend as all the guys were busy. Within 30 minutes a Silver Disco appeared and the techy soon had the Freebie jacked up, all the wheels off it and the entire braking system front and rear was cleaned out and blown with compressed air. I had a non squeaky brake drive home the next day. 3rd time was with my TDv6 RRSport - I was driving home from town and the ECU put the car into limp home mode. I know how to reset the ECU (switch off the engine, take the key out, replace key and restart the engine reboots all the systems!) but I had to do it about 6 times in an 18 mile journey. It was late at night on a Saturday 1st thing Su8nday I tried the car again and no change so I called LRA and the local guy was there in about 20 minutes. He coupled up his laptop to the computer port in the footwell and downloaded the ECU fault log and found the fault which he could not fix. He then emailed the downloaded log to the local dealer and made sure the car was otherwise safe to drive and asked me to take it in on the Monday morning. The local LRA techy only lives 10 miles from me so I have always been lucky that he hasn't had a busy day when I have needed to call for help! I have had brilliant service form LRA every time.
