extra rust protection

I know that our FL2's already have a degree of rust protective coatings on the underside & wheel arches - but has anyone had extra professional treatment eg Dinitrol ?

I believe that they offer a 15 year guarantee if you have their treatment between 0-6m old, 12 years for 7m-12m old etc.

I believe in extra treatment with Dinitrol / Tectyl and my former norwegian cars was all treated.
Some months ago I got my Freelander2 treated with Dinitrol. ( The smell disappeared after one week).

The cost was 4.060 dkk = 381 Pound Sterling.
Dinitol under the car, through some holes in the bodywork and around the engine.
I suppose it is necessary to protect against the salt they use on the roads to day.

Hey Scotster.
18 pounds is cheap, but without the work (?).
Dinitrol-service center used over 24 hours to clean, to dry, to get the liquid on and to dry again.
It`s worth more than 18 pounds.

Dinitol has been tested in Germany under long term stability, and it failed due to crystalization and therefor corrosion between metal and Dinitol.
The very best conservation presently on the market is "Liquid Film" for underbody protection, and "Liquid fluid" for cavity sealing. Both products have been developed for the ship-yards to protect the sea water tanks. Both products will not crystalize and harden even under heavy salt water contact. Protection is said to last for min. 5 years, once applied.
Both products may be obtained from "www.korrosionsschutz-depot.de" the master of corrosion protection in Germany. They speak English and have their English Web-Site. They ship anywhere within Europe at reasonable prices. Liquid Fluid is available in 400 ml spray cans at around EUR 10,00 and Liquid Film is sold in 1 Litre can at around EUR 18,00 for paint brush application of the underbody. You need two cans for cavity protection and 2 litres for underbody sealing.

I use it for years on my vehicles, and corrosion has never been an issue , even after my cars have been sold to the 3rd owner.

Living in Norway I used Tectyl-treatment. In Denmark Dinitrol is predominant.
The principles of the diff. products are the same. (???)
Do a google on both and others.

Excellent info from YF as normal !

However, I expect that Dinitrol (& Tectyl) also offers "impact" protection as well as rust / salt proofing.

YF - do you know if the "Liquids" offer impact protection also ?

Quick question, jimmy: what do you mean with "impact" protection? The "fluid" line is produced by Holts and these products have the proven capability to stick to the surface (metal) and stay there by keeping a certain liquidity over their lifetime, therefor do not crack and not allowing water to enter between metal and protective coat. Dinitrol and Tectyl products have the disadvantage that the protective coat will get hard and will crack after some time allowing water to squeeze between metal and coat.

By the way: electronic rust protection will work under laboratory conditions, but not in normal day to day use.

Hey YF,

I expected that Dinitrol & Tectyl offered protection against rust & also stone chips etc (eg small "impacts" to the underside body work).
Whereas the Fluids you mention - only offer rust protection (not impacts) ?
