Home > Technical > FL2 randomly jolts when being driven |

I seem to be having this strange problem with my manual 07 FR2. The car seems to randomly jolt when accelerating or when driving at a constant speed on the motorway (even with cruise control on). It seems as if the engine suddenly cuts out or the brakes are heavily applied for a split second, then continues to drive fine. Luckily the car doesn't loose much speed in this time but I can't imagine the jolt is good for the car. Has anyone else had anything like this? It's just been serviced and has had all new filters, but this hasn't helped the problem!

Sorry to say sounds like it may be a clutch problem.

Have a read through the thread below, it sounds very much like what I had and was a 2007 manual (not that the gearbox would make any differance) on the end of the crankshaft is a Pulley, behind the pulley is the Reluckter Ring which has a number of magnetic poles on it, this in turn tells the sensor what position the crankshaft is for the timing, it was the the Reluckter Ring that failed on mine. As the magnetic Reluckter Ring spins it generates a pulse for the sensor as the Ring was at fault no pulse was generated and this it seems why no fault was ever registered in the ECU. It seems as the Reluckter Ring was not emitting the signal the engine would think that it had been turned off and shut down then, pick up the signal again. If it is that as I understand it the part is quite cheap but mine was warranty anyway.

I have a similar problem on MY11. It only happens intermittently but it is almost as though everything has cut out for a split second. It then gives a cough and goes on! This usually happens when the engine is properly heated up after a long run and you accelearate away at a roundabout, for instance. there seems to be a relese of pressure noise at the same time. Dealership, on advice of LR, downloaded software of car, sent it to LR by email who then updated it and returned it for re-loading. It has been better since but not cured. Awaiting LR technical guy to come up to dealership to have a go of it.

I have had this engine vibration twice now in 10 months of ownership. The first time many months ago after the DPF software update and the second time a fortnight ago (both times after a hot restart). I was so concerned to stop the engine to prevent damage that I did not check if it would respond to the throttle, no warning lights came on and it took a while to respond to the stop button. This has been reported to the dealer but as nothing is logged in the ECU there is little they can do. I have also noticed a dead spot on slow acceleration usually when cold and not every day. |

Thanks for your responses, I feel better knowing that this may be a more know about fault!

Sounds similar to mine, when the crankshaft sensor was playing up. Get LR to do a diagnotic - that sorted mine oue Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass |

Check EGR valve. It can cause symptoms you described. Also can be linked with faulty injectors or high pressure pump. Do you see a little of black smoke just after it happens? |

Just had it back from LR and it turned out to be a faulty crankshaft sensor, as someone suggested above. £352 and seems to have solved the problem! |

In the last week mine has started showing the same symptoms. Anyone know the part number for the Reluckter Ring/Crankshaft Sensor? Can this be replaced as a DIY? |

I believe these are them, note there is a VIN No change but the LR000681 should suit your year as the latter one is also for the Evoque.
