To answer the question of defkalion:
yes, 2-T oil is totally "absorbed" by the diesel, and the diesel fume will therefor smell slightly different, if you have no DPF. But there is no temperature limit for adding 2-T oil to the diesel, on the contrary: when the engine is cold the injected diesel will/can not fully burn for a few minutes until the engine has warmed up, and the excess (unburned) diesel will "wash" the cylinder walls, that means, it will wash away the motor oil on the cylinder walls. This is the reason why cold diesel engines are so noisy.
2-T oil will prevent this to a very large extent by taking over the grease function which the motor oil usually does. This is the reason why the engine if it is powered by diesel with the dosis of 2-T oil runs so much smoother and quieter than without 2-T oil.

YF you are the master of oils, sir! Thumbs Up
One more question then: that's all fine for low temps. How about very high temps, eg 40 (which is quite common in Greece the last few years). Question
Sorry guys, I got carried away, just remembered I'm under the opposite topic subject Whistle

There is a Glow Plug amber light at the bottom of the rev. counter which lights up when the temperature is below zero, it only stays on a moment at this temperature, then the engine cranks, as it gets colder there is a longer delay.

Hi Wilbur.

Have you actually seen the light illuminate on your FL2?

If so what model have you. I wondered if the light is only installed on the basic model.

...........I've just been quoted the equivalent of GBP 1,700 to have an electric engine heater fitted. Engine only - not the cabin.

I'll think I'll import one & fit it myself !!

There is a thread over on D3 that is on about engine heaters, and a Timer, somebody then goes on to have it SMS enabled

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic16361.html

Send a text to switch it on or off, sounds to me like a good system, if you need it and if the D3 system works in a FL2 of cause Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I'm not too sure on this stuff, I just have too much time on my hands Whistle and like to help if i can.

http://www.kenlowe.com/pre-heaters/cars/index.html

Don't you have to have the car near a mains socket ?

At least with the fuel heaters you can heat the car whilst been dragged around the shops this christmas Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

At minus 43° C or 58° C could you through a glass of water into the air and watch is freeze instantly, I saw this once on TV and it was amazing. Shocked

npinks, actually it was not a glass of water, but a cup of boiling coffee. This was from northern Norway, and I think the temperature were around minus 55C.

We were a bit amused here in Norway, knowing this little sequence on TV apparantly made some reactions around the world. It doesn reach that temperature often. I think the records for temperature in Norway are minus 58C and pluss 38C.

Apart from that, starting a car is never concidered to be a problem. Maybe we get the preheaters? I dont know.

Well, with the global warming we probably will not be needing that much longer anyway. And I am a good swimmer. Wink 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack.
