Installing a reversing camera... Help?

Ok, so I've got myself a reversing camera and waiting on a GPS screen with video input, but I was wondering if anyone can help with a guide to access the reversing light wiring so it will act as a trigger to activitate the camera? The camera I have is the type integrated with the number plate light and uses the 12V signal to power it, it just needs a signal line from from the reverse…

Is there an easy way to get to it? Any advice or guides would be really appreciated!

I looked at getting the Genuine in-dash but don't think that even takes line-in from the camera. Also looked at the awesome VMS LR500 but at $3000 installed I think its over the top for a GPS which doesn't even give you off road tracks…

Any other tips?

Not an answer, but which GPS are you looking for which has AV in? I recall there was a NavMan that had that feature. 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

The 600 also does but this is newer...

I've just wired my camera (although I don't have the system prepared yet Laughing ), so I know a few things.
My camera is like the one you also have, I think.
I have to say it's neither an easy job nor something to be scared of.
First of all you have to remove the tailgate inside trim. Start with the big part. You have two screws in the holes designed for closing the tailgate. After that it's all about clips. Just pull carefully and the trim will pump out. I removed the big trim and 3 more small ones (in order to reach the hole where the cables enter the tailgate).
Using a wire I managed to pass one end of the RCA and the power cable inside the tailgate. It's a 15 min job. Afterwards I removed the number plate light (the right one, in my case) and I installed the camera, of course, after I pulled the other end of the RCA and power cables through the proper hole (it’s easier if you remove the tailgate's handle, but I managed to install the camera without doing so).
Now back to the first end of the cables. After I pulled the cables end outside the tailgate (you’ll see that the original cables that exit the tailgate pass through a 10 cm rubber tube – I couldn’t manage to pass the RCA cable through this tube, but works fine next to the tube), just by pulling the gasket I managed to pass the cables inside the roof panel to the rear light. After this I removed the trunk side panel in order to reach the reverse power cable (although you can find this cable also near the spare wheel) and to pass the RCA cable to the rear seats. Removing this panel is also a clips job, but first you have to remove the shopping bag retaining clip. Once you reached the rear seats you can pass the RCA cable inside the panel just by pressing the floor carpet. Regarding the camera power cable, you have to connect this one to the rear light power cable and ground cable.
When I did this job I had one problem: the cables provided with the camera are too short (5m-RCA and about 1m-power cable). So, I think you’ll need to buy a 0,7 cable (about 6m) and a new RCA cable (8 or 10m)
