My counting over 15000 miles/year is nearly £1000.

I have been keeping my fuel figures on an app called road trip lite since Dec. Mixed driving including backwards and forwards to work, Solo trip to the Alps Towing caravan to France and the UK, so a real mixed bag.

We all suffer at the hands of depreciation no matter what.
You may save in fuel in 12 months what your car will loose in 8 weeks.
Fact.
Therefore that's why i see little point about a few mpg. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Personally I think that yes its true that the car depreciates faster than the cost of mileage, but it is also true that low mpg cars depreciate faster than high mpg cars...

I'm trying to sell an 05 plate Chrysler Voyager at the moment and that does a little over 30mpg on a run. Lost £2.5K in a year (£6K down to £3.5K) and everytime someone asks about mpg, they run a mile.

So pretty sure that a 2010 MY10 will depreciate faster than a 2010 MY11 car of the same age.

Times are changing and Land Rover is finally recognising this in their engine design.

well peg leg, our C1 ( Toyota Aygo ) 1.0 averages 60+ just around town and 70+ on a run so may be the Yaris gets a spanking !

I do believe that LR were a wee bit optimistic in their initial figures for fuel consumption when they first issued them. It is pretty obvious to us all that they were over-estimated.
Having said that, for a fairly large capacity engine, with the fuel injection capability that it has, at pretty short notice, one has to balance the consumption with customer expectation, i.e., one's right foot.
Let's face it, if the FL2 had a V6 TDI, similar to the Disco 4, then we would really be enjoying this car, but it would be too expensive for most of us, especially on fuel. So, I think that LR tried to hit the happy medium, but maybe fibbed a bit initially on the official figures.

I think it very unlikely they would fib on the official figures. It's probably not possible and if it were they would be open to some pretty draconian penalties. It is well known that the "official" figures are created in an artificial test situation and can almost never be equalled on road.
For my part, I find the most important variable (on my 07 GS) is the heat of the engine. A lot of cold starts will really kill your consumption figures, whereas a measurement over a long run with engine already warm will be much better. I doubt if the newer models are much different in this respect.

Recently completed a round trip from the tropics to the ski fields of over 4000Klm and obtained a very ordinary figure of 13.5 Litres/100Klm (21 MPG UK) towing a small caravan but on the way back it went down to 6.1L (46MPG) without the van. It was mainly highway driving and I recorded figures each 100Klm. It was very interesting that when I was towing the van, fuel consumption went from 13.5 down to 10 or even lower if I followed a semi-trailer. I didn't get to trial the variation without the van.

Did a motorway run the other day and got around 42/43 mpg and I wasn't trying to do it economically and i wasn't speeding either.

TD4 my11 6600 miles avge 32mpg pretty consistantly over last 4 months, am dissappointed with fuel consumption but is the only fault and if L/R can improve mpg on new model thats a real winner to me

I have a 07 TD4 Manual and get about 37MPG doing daily commute (18 miles) mainly country lanes. This drops to 34MPG in the winter months. Can get low 40's on long run if I stick to under 60mph. Done 48000miles now and runs better than when new.

But If you want to get the best economy check your tyre pressures regularly. I run on 19" wheels 255/55 tyres which run at 35psi, If they drop just 2psi to around 33psi I lose about 3MPG and will only get at best 34MPG instead of 37MPG.

Intresting about the Teso fuel and other premium fuel. Always run on Tesco and add 250ml of Castrol Actevo 2stroke oil. I will definately try another brand with and without the 2stroke.

Hi all, Just reading your comments re-fuel economy. I have a 5 year old manual with 68000 on the clock and as long as I drive it steady, 60mph on trips to Scotland I always get 40 to 41 MPG.

Just returned from my first real trip in my low mileage (13450) 2010 td4 auto, drove up to Irvine near Glasgow about 220 miles each way, so I wanted to make a real test.
Traveling there yesterday (very hot day) I used Tesco diesel with some Miller diesel additive in there zeroed the computer then drove steady, found it read 40.2 mpg when I arrived
Today I filled it with BP super diesel after the low fuel warning came on then drove it home not such a hot day but warm and wet at first, 40.4 mpg
Pretty pleased with that and it is very comfotable to drive over long distance, on the small roads opened up the sun roof, but on the motorway used the AC and you could see a slight difference.

Took my own oil (castrol 3000) along for the service and my mpg has increased by about 3-4 mpg!!! Makes me wonder what rubbish these Indy garages use in out cars??? They did charge me extr labour as they openly admitted they were losing money by me providing my own oil.

This is the result from our Garmin SatNav over 14 months, which includes 4 trips towing a caravan, one to Portsmouth and Plymouth via Caen, one to Belgium, one to Madrid and one to Lyon, all starting in Northern Brittany.

The FL does do a lot of short >10 km trips on country roads, so overall I don't think 30.2 mpg is too bad. (the cost should be euro not £)
