No worries, I really took most of the pictures to make sure I got the brakes back together with everything the right way round as my memory isn't as good as it used to be.
If they help people out that's great, & as I had some time last night and was happy with what I achieved I thought I would share them. I have quite a few more which I didn't upload as I thought the ones I used gave a good insight.
Thumbs Up

My simple question is:

which way do you move the adjuster (after removing the plastic plug) to release the brake shoes? 2002 Honda VFR800

I'm not trying to be sarcastic here....but one way (forwards/backwards-horizontally), on the OS and the oposite on the NS as the adjuster is in the opposite way up on one side. I can't remember off hand which is which.

It should be fairly evident as you flick/push it with a large flat bladed screwdriver, if you rotate the drum once you've moved it. You should also (with a torch, through the access hole) be able to see less thread exposed on the adjuster as you slacken it off.

I hope that makes sense Wink

Had a look at my rear drums this afternoon. Confused
The hand brake shoes seemed fine and the expander mechanisms seemed to work, so all I can think is that one of them needed adjusting properly. Rolling Eyes
When I put it all back together, they seem to work marginally better but still not what I expect. Neutral
Anyway, this exercise showed me that the rear discs and pads need replacing, so I'll replace the hand brake shoes at the same time whilst also giving the expander mechanisms a good clean and a slight lubrication. Thud
Thanks for the photos earlier on in the thread they were a great help. Thumbs Up
Cheers
Ade

yeah they are the same as ford s max and vovlo v40.

When i had my car in pieces earlier this week, there were more vovlo and ford parts than land rover parts!!!

Sorry, can you please confirm exactly which parts are the same as for the Volvo V40? We have an independent Volvo specialist just up the road - might be useful for parts / doing the job.

Thanks

Hi, just refurbished shoes, expanders and adjusters after discs and pads renewal, just one question does it matter which way up the adjusters are fitted? think I may have fitted one with the knurled wheel at the bottom.

Hi, not sure if this might help. When I bought mine I thought the handbrake was poor but okay. At the first MOT, sadly after the 12 month extended warranty had run out, there was an advisory that the handbrake cables were splitting and corroded. I had this looked at by my local Indy. Replaced both cables as they were shot but found shoes and drum area were both fine. Handbrake has worked fine ever since.

Sometimes you can tell which side is seized by watching the adjuster as you apply/release the handbrake
