I've just replaced some of the rubber trim strips. Whilst I had them off I cleaned the wing edges and then sprayed a small amount of ACF50 into the panel joints to try to prevent any corrosion.

Takes about a minute, pull the old off and push the new on by hand or a tap with soft mallet |

When my rubber stips were replaced (all 4 in about 5 mins) under warrenty I was told that the metal clips inside the rubber strips corrode and eventually disintergrate which is the reason the rubber ends become loose. My guess would be that in time this corrotion could well be transfered to the wheel arch metal and may be the reason you are seeing corrsion 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

My 07 is starting to do similar and is well out of warranty. Does anyone know the part numbers and/or costs to replace the strips? |

anti corrosion warranties usually only cover perforation. Which is pretty unlikely unless you drive around in the sea a lot. |

Why LR have to design such details so cheap, nasty, old fashioned and typically unlike any other car on the road today I will never understand . The equivalent wheel arch trim on the X3 for example has a far superior design & I wonder sometimes if LR are incapable of practical detail design 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Now thats touching on reliability - and apparantly LR have also a lesson to learn from BMW here as well. Having said that my freely has been just as reliable as my BMW was after 3.5 years 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof. I remember when BMWs were the most unreliable vehicles on the road. Used to laugh every time we passed one on the hard shoulder. All things change, and LR too has improved I believe. I've taken two of them as far as the Black Sea coast with no problem (other than bribing Eastern European customs and police), and would certainly trust the current one to go there again. |
