100,000 Miles

Was driving to Cardiff the other night and about a mile before the bridge Toll I noticed something special was about to happen...so I quickly took a pic...

Sorry, not quite so brilliant. Driving on the M4 at speed and using your mobile to take a photo of your dashboard. I would call that driving without due care & attention - or worse. Just as dangerous if a passenger took it and got that close whilst you are driving. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Quite a few assumptions there. No mention of what road he was on, there's plenty within a mile of the bridge and plenty of places to pull over legally to take the photo. There is no evidence that the vehicle was in motion when the photo was taken. You may well be right but it might be better to wait for more concrete evidence before adopting the "holier than thou" stance.

Understood Geoff - I picked up on "so I quickly took a pic..." and he said he was about mile from the bridge Toll (that is the Severn Bridge, or New Severn Bridge) - hence already on the motorway, where there are no nearby services. Circumstantial evidence I know, but.....

Certainly not "holier than thou". Just not the sort of thing to be encouraged on the forum.

Passing 100,000 miles is significant and there is nothing wrong with posting the fact. When my last FL passed 100k, I pulled into a layby and took a photo of the car. See "100,004 miles". That is a safer way to do it. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I think we should celebrate the fact he was driving it at all, going by some of the doom and gloom merchants on here the only way to clock up those sorts of miles is on the back of a flat bed recovery truck. Thumbs Up

I have done the IAM ADVANCED motorcyclist course so I am perfectly aware of what is safe and not safe on the road. Actually it wasn't on the M4 it was the roundabout underneath the motorway that joins the link road between Junction 18a and the M4 so the vehicle was in fact stationary. The 'quickly took a pic' was referring to "while it was still on 100,000 miles and not 100,010!

There you go dunkley201, I knew there'd be a perfectly good explanation.

One thing though ghawk2005, if that photo was taken when stationary perhaps you should consider an IAM ADVANCED photography course as well.

Well done ghawk, thanks for the clarification. I have an LGV C+E and have unfortunately too often seen the results of some nasty accidents in that area - often caused by lack of attention. Hence my concern. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

There was a time when it was unusual for a car to get anywhere near 100k due to rust or mechanical failure. Now it's no big deal. Do you remember when Volvo put the 6th digit on their odometer and used it as a marketing tool since it was so unusual for it to happen to UK vehicles?
