United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame
Hello Newbie,

There is every chance that I'll be waving goodbye to my C4Picasso tomorrow and picking up an 07 Freelander2 se, Td4 manual orange ( as in the forum pic), 33k one lady from new. (Just some last minute haggling to be done)

Was wondering is there anything I should be looking out for.

Looking forward to reading and posting. I'm a great believer in forums.

If you look you'll find this question has been answered many times. Main things I'd say - do a high speed run to check for clutch slip (in fifth and sixth); if buying from a dealer, get them to give you a jack and spare wheel if it hasn't already got one; check all electrics work; look for oil leak at back top of engine (usually easy to fix but could help you haggle); has it got dealer service history. Not a lot else really.

Good luck for today mate, hope all goes well.

Few pointers;

Check all electrics (mirrors, windows, seats etc)
Put in fob and press start immediatley and check the trip does not reset (software upgrade if it does)
Get someone to walk round car with parking sensors on to check each sensor works.
when on test run, try all terrain response settings and if possible use hill decent.

It is a fantastic car to drive, but comes into its own in the bad weather.

Good luck Thumbs Up

for a 2007MY i'd be looking out for the following;

noisy power steering pump and or stiff steering at low speed (steering is generally noisy anyway but early models had problems with pas reservoir filter - a simple changed of 12quid filter fixed it but often if too late a new rack is needed)
check for the little rubber strips on the wheel arches - these curl and fall off
if a manual check for clutch slippage in 5th and 6th at around 2000 - 2500 rpm - clutches are weak and the DMF can also cause vibrations on hard accelerations
With windows open listen out for any unusual turbo noise, a clean sharp whistle is to be expected and whoop means a dodgy turbo
check for seatbelt wear on the b pillars - if a dealer car or with extended warranty you can get these fixed and modified so it dont happen again
check for wheel wobble at all speeds - they are sensitive to off balance wheels / tyres but it could be something more sinister
check for scrubbing on the tyres and uneven wear, this could just be tracking or it could be worn, broken, bent suspension joints
if you have satnav make sure you have all the disks - there should be 3 one of which will be in the dvd drive under the drivers seat
check for panel damage and oversrpay - 4 yrs old its bound to be in a crash!
check shut lines - they are pretty good on a land rover (except defenders) so any difference in gaps could show a crash
check hand brake - they dont really work Exclamation
check pads and disks
check service history - every 12months or 15k miles - so you should have at least 3 if not four stamps
check aircon for cold air - 4 yrs + and it could need a recharge.... also compressors have been known to brake.
check for noises coming from the rear diff - i'm told a whiney noisy but not to be confused with castelated tyres
check tyres are matching, have even wear and are suited to the car (ie load ratiing / speed rating if not OEMs)

Otherwise just use your common sense and your gut Thumbs Up Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

How do I check if this has been done?

If it's been serviced by the selling dealer they'll know. otherwise you can't. But if the steering is not making any nasty noises it's prob OK - would have broken before now.

its not a 100% test but if you look in the PAS resevoir whilst turning the wheel when the engine is ticking over, you may see bubles and turbilant flow of oil. If all is OK you should just see an almost perfect mushroom shape. Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints
