Starting yesterday, our FL2 now judders badly when accelerating in 4th and 5th through the 2K to 2.5K rev band. It sort of does 3 successive judders which are enough to shake the dashboard almost every time. It is a manual and has only done 19K miles. The revs dip slightly whenever it does it. Is this the clutch??? Or is it likely to be even worse! Still under warranty fortunately. Cheers. mojo.

Sounds similar to the issue I had with mine, which turned out to be clutch related - replaced under warranty (after a fight!) as the car was 1 month out of warranty, never towed and had done less than 30k at the time...

Mine would slip at around 2000 to 2500 RPM, in 4th, 5th and 6th.

Worth getting it checked out...

Sounds like dual mass flywheel failing. Do you get increased heavy sounding rattle when starting? All FL2's (3) Gone

Could be the dreaded dual mass flywheel. Mine was replaced at 26k together with a new clutch.
Take it back to the dealer to sort it. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I am stumped really as to what it is as there is no obvious clutch slip as it accelerates fine all the way up to 70mph despite the strange triple judder between 2k and 2.5k revs. Don't think it is dual mass flywheel as no other symptoms as per the suggestions in this thread. LR Assistance did say maybe it could be the fuelling but wouldn't commit over the phone. Will see what dealer says on Friday. Stevea, I'm Kent based, which dealer do you use?

Dealer says they have done a software update???????? Sounds like a standard response to 'we don't know what is wrong!' to me.

Well, not overly impressed with dealer diagnosis and fix. Ran the techie round the block so that he could experience the juddering. He said he could see what I meant. This was at 08:00 in the morning. At 11:00am got phone call to say all fixed, it needed a drivetrain software upgrade. Smelt like horse manure to me but gave them benefit of doubt. Collected car later in day, drove away, problem still there within a few yards. My guess is they don't have a clue and if the computer says no they have nowhere else to go as they aren't real mechanics. This could take a while to fix. Also went in for trim falling off but no-one had bothered to order any bits in so all in all a wasted day. Still, got a nice SD4 HSE as a loaner, nearly didn't bother going back!

Dual mass flywheel is in effect a 2 part unit which flexes on take up as cushion springs on clutch centre plate are not strong enough for the torque in moder diesels (unless the size of tractor ones)

If the bonding on flywheel starts to separate you will get the exact symptoms you describe and NOT necessarily with clutch slip at first.

Mojo, I use beadles in sidcup. Been pretty good with me over the last 3 and a half years.

Well, dealer had car today and rather than mess around, they fitted a new clutch and new flywheel so hats off to them. No quibbling whatsoever. Also fixed trim that was falling off, hopefully for the last time.

And has that sorted the problem?

I think so, need a more thorough road test over the weekend but all well on the drive home tonight.

I've got the same situation: juddering in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear within a certain revs band while accelerating but no clutch slipping. It is not a leathal problem but still spoils the driving pleasure...

After a week of driving with new clutch and flywheel, can safely say all sorted and no more juddering. Trim also still in place! Thumbs up to my dealer!
