Nowadays, I think that the "running-in" of car engine bearings is no longer necessary. What is of great importance for a diesel engine, is the "bedding-in" of piston rings, (obviously the heart of CI type engines) and for that to happen, you need to take things easy for about 500 miles. This means not exceeding say 2500 revs/min during that time, and also not putting your foot to the floor during that time, even if one is tempted in this brilliant FL2. After that, then occasional bursts of power should be given, in a gradual ascendance, lasting minutes rather than seconds, and continued as such. Once you are over that hill, then it is important to keep giving extra power to the engine at regular intervals, and for longer periods, until, I would suggest, that the engine has done at least 20k miles. My estimate is that my FL1 was "run-in" at around 25k miles, because that is when I noticed the fuel consumption steadying off (at 40+ mpg), and no engine lube oil was used between services.
