What oil does your dealer use at service?

Oil is the life of an engine, I do not doubt that dealers use the correct oils but having paid in the region of £60 + vat for oil at service I would expect invoice to state exactly make and grade used. This is often NOT the case and reception staff do not know. I feel it is important to top up with same oil having paid the extortionate price they charge.
The only answer I got was its Shell Helix, that narrows it down to about 10 variations.
The handbook gives a spec for Ford Oil and this is available from Ford Dealers for about £20 for 5 litres, is this what is filled when cars are new. Dealers seam to use fully synthetic.
I now supply my own oil, Mobil 1 or Castol Edge.

This post stems from an argument with Toyota dealer who only used 1 grade of bulk oil, NOT the correct grade for my car, SO wrong oil filled by Main Dealer = warranty OK , correct oil and filter by myself = warranty void. I phoned Toyota and was asked who dealer was,it was one of the largest in the country, and Toyota then said that the grade they used would be OK. They refused to put it in writing!!!! All FL2's (3) Gone

Hi druand,
My last service invoice from stealer quoted Shell Helix Ultra AC. However, I am thinking of applying for a disabled badge as I had to leave an arm and a leg as payment!! I will certainly opt to supply my own oil at next service as there are some fairly good deals to be had (compared to dealer price) on the LR recommended lubricants.

I actually spoke to Landrover Customer Service this week, the person I spoke to said he would ask the technical department and call me back. He called back to say that Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 was recommended to use or any that met the Ford Spec WSS-M2C913-B FL2 HSE Sumatra black with body kit

As there is a conflict between the advise in the manual and the sticker under the bonnet I phoned LR Customer Services and asked what was the correct oil for the SD4 (with DPF)? The lady didn't know, neither was she aware of the conflicting advise and promised to send this information up the chain. She put me on hold while she tried to get an answer. After 5 mins she came back and the best she could do was tell me the bloke sitting next to her had an SD4 and he used Castrol Edge 5W/30. What a crap service!

So I phoned my supplying dealer and spoke to the Service Manager. He didn't know what oil was in the car at delivery but after my first service it would have Mobile 10W/40 in it. I told him that was not a specified oil and his reply was that the garage had a contract with Mobile and that oil would do.

You couldn't make it up could you. Big Cry

Had my My11 T D4 serviced last week. The invoice states " 5w30 bulk oil" £51.12 plus vat. So no idea what they have put in! I suspect as its a good quality oil meeting the Ford spec we shouldn't worry too much about it.

That is what is wrong, it could be the lowest possibe spec for engine. At just over £10 inc vat / litre I would like to know the exact spec for topping up. All FL2's (3) Gone

Any 5w 30, fully synthetic oil will do, so long as it meets WSS-M2C913-B spec. My dealer seems to alternate between Castrol Magnetec (which I used to use all the time until it got too expensive) and Unipart 5w 30. In my opinion, they are both as good as each other. It's the frequency of change that dictates the engine life Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Ford oil

Mine runs fine on Ford Formula "F". This is a full synthetic 5w/30 and meets the Ford/Land Rover specs.
There is a Ford garage at Hinkley, Leicestershire, who advertise on e-bay. The prices vary, but you can frequently get 6 litres delivered to your door for 20 quid.
