Which options to order?

Hi Everyone,
Got by a complete accident into LandRover territory through a friend that imports them locally. Next week I'll do my first test drive of the 110KW engine. But first few questions I hope you guys could help with:

1) Is the 110kw engine fast enough or I should splash for the the top of the range SD4 diesel?
2) Which options are in your opinion vital to get for this car?
3) Which color this thing looks best in?
4) Any tasteful mods you can recommend for the bodykit? (I'm thinking of M-sport on BMW kind, nothing gaudy or nasty)
5) What is the biggest wheel size I should go (and which style looks best)?
6) Is suspension height adjustable?

If someone asks why I want to buy it, it is mainly for its supposed ability to flip off the normal cars in a dirty/snowy/muddy conditions on uncleaned city roads. Where I live in winter the roads kinda get half the width, icy ruts are on all secondary roads and highways can get awfully dangerous when starting to drive late at night and a snow storm comes. So you see, a 320d just won't do anymore, i have enough gray hair already. Smile

In summer, I no longer want to avoid every damn pothole either, though I think it's already in my DNA after BMWs.

OR should I even wait for the Evoque?

Would appreciate your input and advice.

PS: I'm thinking an Silver SD4 on 18in wheels with cinnamon brown leather in HSE trim and Auto box would be my top choice, but this costs north of 44k Euro, thus the engine is a bit guestion here.

The TD4 (150 bhp) engine is plenty fast enough for normal day to day use and will give you a better fuel consumption albeit for a slower 0 - 60 mph (0 - 100 kph) time. Look at TD4 with auto/command shift box as an alternative to SD4.
If you're looking at HSE trim there aren't many options as it has pretty much most of them. You might wish to look at mudguards front and rear and side protection strips to prevent too many supermarket car park dents.
Looks good in all colours, in UK Land Rover Experience cars are currently silver and look good, they also don't show minor scratches as much as some of the darker colours.
Rear spoiler is pretty much the only body kit, it may be standard on HSE.
18 inch wheels are perfectly adequate. I run 17 inch on mine which are also very good. If you're looking at winter tyres you might wish to consider 16 inch or 17 inch but for normal use 18 will give you a good ride.
As far as I know suspension height is not adjustable.

You might have a long wait for an Evoque as I believe pretty much all the first 12 months production run has been sold.

Really?? The official consumption stats say they're the same. The SD4just has better performance. Brian

The only reason for getting 18" wheels is the bling factor. 16" or 17" are better in rough going and less likely to get kerbed.

Xenons are worthwhile if you drive a lot at night on unlit roads.

Definitely go for an automatic if you don't get the SD4 (which is auto anyway). Brian

I would second the Xenons, it is my only real complaint, the car is fantastic but the standard headlights are extremely poor SD4 Sport LE Firenze Red - no options or modifications yet, but it's early days.

Definately go for the SD4 if your budget allows - having owned both the TD4 and SD4 the latter is far superior, mpg is affected but not by much, I usually get 40mpg out of mine. Xenons are a must and whilst a bodykit isnt available (unless you opt for the Sport LE) privacy glass will give your FL2 a sporty look. Im riding with 19" wheels and have absolutely no complaints - strangely a smoother ride than the 18" fitted on my old FL2. Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit

Belgium 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Santorini Black

1) Is the 110kw engine fast enough or I should splash for the the top of the range SD4 diesel? YES
2) Which options are in your opinion vital to get for this car? AUTO GEARBOX
3) Which color this thing looks best in? BLACK (debatable)
4) Any tasteful mods you can recommend for the bodykit? (I'm thinking of M-sport on BMW kind, nothing gaudy or nasty) XENONS, chrome sill protectors, chrome backseat protector
5) What is the biggest wheel size I should go (and which style looks best)? I recommend 17 inch: comfortable and better off-road
6) Is suspension height adjustable No

Also, if you dare, don't go for the LR satnav, but get a 3th party install. I got a Kenwood system including subwoofer and including professional installation which costs me 9 euro's more then the LR satnav, but which has a lot more features. See my gallery.

There are other options you can do, like chromed mirrors and such but these are more personal taste. Just don't compromise the offroad abilities by putting a HST skin on it, that's my advice.
The main must have ones are auto gearbox (which I regret not having) and xenons. the auto gearbox gives you better offroad capabilities as the the clutch of the manual isn't as good as it should be.

And what ever you do, at least go 4x4!

Official consumption data for combined cycle:

TD4 Manual 45.6
TD4 Auto 40.4
SD4 Auto 40.4

So agreed if you compare TD4 auto with SD4 auto they're the same but if you opt for TD4 manual it's better.

0 - 60 mph
TD4 Manual 10.9
TD4 Auto 10.5
SD4 Auto 8.7
