DAB has 'disappeared'

I have a 2010 HSE with DAB, and have used it extensively mostly for sport (radio Radio 5, Sports Extra etc).

Yesterday DAB functionality on the radio, usually accessed by pressing the 'FM digital' button repeatedly to cycle through FM to get to the DAB station, seems to have just 'disappeared'. Pressing the FM button now just cycles through the two sets of FM presets.

Anyone seen this before? Or am I going slightly mad.

TIA

strange one

My guess would be its either a gremlin or the DAB unit has a fault or become unplugged

I believe the DAB unit is located beneath the side window in the boot

but been a 2010 you might as well book it in to the dealers on warranty instead of messing yourself with trying to get panels on and off Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I don't get DAB, I live in a rural location and have no DAB stations to listen to? Can anyone change my opinion on what I see as a useless feature.

What's the difference between DAB1 and DAB2? Why can I only get stations on DAB2 when they appear. What are all the lists mean??? 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

DAB1 and DAB2 are the same as having FM1 and FM2, basically more places to store your favourite channels

I not too sure, on what the list are, but i think DAB is split in to sections a section for all the BBC channels and sections for independent sites

if your getting channels on DAB2, you'll get them on DAB1 also

on DAB1, menu and select autotune and it should tune and store the better signal ones

you can get a list of channels through the menu, but i find it list ones that have no reception

DAB is loads clearer than FM, switch between the two on the same station you can really tell the difference Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

DAB is compressed to blazes, so while it may seem clearer, it's because the tonal range available is less. Listen to an accoustic or classical track on DAB then on FM and you'll get more range from the FM transmission. All relative, as both are pants compared to MP3 at 128kbps or higher, or FLAC/Lossless/CD.

@triple7 - I was in your camp re:DAB for a long time, I'm also rural. I had a DAB add-on to try in a previous car, and it was unusable - dropped out 10 times on my way home. I wanted to try it for BBC Radio5 Sports extra as this is only available on DAB and had Test Match Special - my last two cars VW and FL2 had no long wave.

Ordinary BBC 5 Live is on Medium Wave, and sounds terrible in the evenings.

In the FL2 it works really well - it was a bonus as I didn't know it was on the car when I bought it. Except last night it disappeared from the dial altogether! MY10 TD4.e HSE

DAB became available in late 07. The 'digital' on the FM button refers to digital tuning not DAB. To find if you have DAB press the FM button and it should show FM1, FM2 and if DAB fitted it will then go to DAB1 and DAB2 before cycling back to FM1.

@Alanbgt - we have a 2010MY HSE and exactly the same thing happened - intermittantly the DAB radio option would disappear and if you press the FM/DAB button it just flips between FM 1&2. In fact I'll bet that if you do get DAB back one day and leave it there, next time it breaks you'll actually get a silent stereo system giving the impression its turned off, however its not and pressing the FM switch gets you to FM radio again.

Ours was fixed by the dealer who did a factory reset, its been fine since. They also said our 'country' wasn't set in the DAB settings that may have caused the issue, if you do find it working one day it might be best to go through the config screens and check all is OK including the country setting, may save a trip to the dealer. Alternatively just work out how to do a factory reset yourself. You'll lose your MPG/trip data and all saved radio stations etc. 2010 HSE Auto in Santorini Black/almond with xenons and privacy glass.
