is it definitely overfilled? I have found that by being on ground with even the slightest angle makes quite a difference to the reading on the dipstick. If it is overfilled by so much again, I wouldn't go back to them. 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame. |

How did you take the surplus out? The only way I know without special equipment to suck it out would be opening the drain plug on the sump. A lot of hassle. I think I would have insisted on them doing it. I suppose they do have one of these new guys fresh from school with no clue what to do! It's called globalization: get very cheap manpower with no clue and let the rest of the world pay, so that these stealers of managers and bankers get their fortune ![]() |

I think that the following could be an explanation... To get the maximum out of the engine, the oil must be very hot in order to be very fluid and flow/drip out accordingly. And of course to have enough patience to drain it as much as possible. The oil refill, with filter, is 5.9 liters. So... 1. Not warming up the engine oil to corresponding temperature, plus 2. Not having enough patience to let it all drain, plus 3. Pouring in a round figure of 6 liters, gives us the reported problem of having in the end too much oil... I've also seen that after service I have about 3-4 mm above max, but I don't worry as, when driving, the oil inside pan is moving a lot and those 3-4 mm doesn't count. And the mechanics here have a good habit of draining the oil first and as long as they change other filters around the car, the oil still drips. Then in the end, the last operation is to plug the drain hole and fill it with fresh oil. In this way most of the old oil is taken out. |

yes Alex, could go a bit towards an explanation, but bloody annoying and incompetant. I think in general the dealer services are major rip offs, but a necessary evil during the warranty period. next year when she is three years old I may look for other avenues and/or do it myself. Iain |

Having bought the vehicle second hand from LR dealer I have had the oil and filter changed twice. Once by the LR dealer and once by a 4x4 independent. In both cases the oil was 3 to 4 mm above top dipstick mark. Strange - almost as if it is standard practice. 2007 TD4 SE Manual
