Gradually the oil level drops with use of course. Since last service in February, approx 3500 miles of mixed driving, it has dropped from 3 - 4 mm to 1 mm above full mark. 2007 TD4 SE Manual 2014 TD4 HSE Auto |

Hi trawlerman, I'm not going to name and shame the dealer reason being I was extremely happy with all other aspects of the service, and this is the only thing as far as I can see that was bodged, and they did offer to remove it. also after trawling the internet it does seem very common practice, especially with BMW dealers for some reason ?? I think the general concensus is that when refilling with oil the mechanic is not giving enough time for the new oil to run down/settle before checking the final level, and you end up with anything up to a litre overfilled. This and the fact that they want to pour in all 6 liters (even if correct is 5.9 liters)...

correct Alex, a combination of factors, but I would imagine that around 80% of customers would never notice or bother anyway, so the dealers take no action to stop the practise. Iain |
