Just read an interesting article on the bbc news website about a very nice farmer who cut the grass on the pitch for his local football team for FREE.

I you do that in Belgium they calculate the excess based on how much you drive yearly + a steep fine. I think they go back 5 years or so. Even if they only find a small trace. Not a risk worth taking here!

I've been stopped and tested! about 7 yrs ago just when diesel cars were on the up, there was an HMRS testing station always at the services on the M1 down south. I've also seen them stopping and testing round by me quite recently. I think its an absolute shocker that the farmer got nicked though. I used to drive tractors around running on red diesel to harrow and role private stables - whats the difference? wipe your nozzle before insertion, then wipe again and return it to its proper place when finished.

My mate, known locally as the Mad Farmer, keeps his Derv in one tank and the Red Stuff in another. Problem is they both use the same electric pump and come out of the same nozzle, so the first few litres to come out are whatever he used last. NIGHTMARE!!!! |

fuel tankers do that, if delivering derv and red diesel to the same site for example, the hose potentially contains many litres of the wrong fuel, so at the end of one fill the driver presses a button and the new fuel purges the pipe, stopping flow just as the new stuff reaches the nozzle.

Customs and Excise normally seize the vehicle until the fine is paid - sometimes many thousands of pounds levied especially in the case of lorries. The vehicle remains the property of Customs and Excise until the fine is paid.

There is a way of separating the dye from red, there was a couple of guys near me done for it a few years ago. The police thought there'd been a massacre until the red substance was tested that was dug into a field!

The standard way of removing it (or most of it) is by mixing with Fullers Earth and filtering it. All that does is make it less apparent to a cursory check with a 'dip test'. It will never fool the Customs and Excise people in their van as they use a chemical test.
