England 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Fuji White

My Fl2 has been rejected for 2 weeks this Monday. Local dealer has filled in all the forms and sent them off to Land Rover and now I just have to wait to see what LR will do for me. I had stated that I would like another vehicle the same as I had before.

Already some mention has been made of "betterment" i.e a further contribution from myself to reflect the fact that mine has been driven Shocked

I don't know what potential figure this could be but I do feel that I paid enough in the first place (for a faulty car) and I am certainly not going to be happy if I need to add anymore. The car wouldn't have even done many miles had I rejected it after the third fault so beware if you have a troublesome new motor that has had faults already.

Definately reject any request for more money, if you bought a faulty Hi-Fi from Curry's & took it back within a warranty period it's obvious it has been used but they arn't going to ask you for more money! Censored Fiddle. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

EV,
Agreed. It's all part of 'Not fit for the pupose for which it's intended', as the law specifies.

A vehicle that wont start fits into that catagory.

L/R are trying it on. Censored stinks. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Common practice from what I understand, they replace the car but charge you a pence per mile charge Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Damn silly what are you supposed to do with it ? Do you have an issue with it from the start of ownership & think "I'd better not drive this car incase I need to reject it?
They are being foolish to themselves & not a good way to retain customers IMO. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

Your contract is with your dealer not LR, the dealer has the contract with LR. So, no matter what deal LR offes the dealer you should demand that the dealer replaces your car and hope he agrees - but I doubt he will unless you are a very valued customer. The sum of money involved is too big to use the Small Caims Court so, if you can't come to agreement you will have to go to a higher court, and that is very expensive and time comsuming. When this happened to me (4 gearboxes in 6 months) Citroen just walked away, but the dealer offered me the very best trade in price and sold me a new car for cost and put on some nice extras like parking sensors. There was no tax, VAT or profit but it still cost me about £1500 - that was 8 years ago - and left with a bad taste in my mouth, but it was the only way out without going to court. Get serious with your dealer you can't touch LR directly.

I wouldnt part with any more money !
I had the same problem with a Ford Fiesta once, just had total lemon, Finally got brandnew replacement 6 months later and was told to keep lemon car untill replacement came along.
To be honest the dealer was so good in the end we are now on our third and the last two have been brilliant. We didnt have to pay for any upgrade and our original lemon model had covered 3600 miles when chopped in.
So the moral in the story was they looked after us and we have bought again and again, although sadly cant say the same about Landrover ! they seem to be on the defensive all the time and some of the dealers are not up to standard by far !
For me may be a Kugar next time, not so good as a Freelander but my Ford Dealer has always been really good.
What i do like about fords is if they have a problem car they plug it into a national control centre where the diagnostics is carried out and if no fault found they will go by history and records from other cars and based on the balance of probabilites replaced the part they think most likley !. We have experinced this once and it was a brilliant system and sorted in one visit. May be Landrover need to sit up and listen

As others have said do not give them any money, if you reject the goods you are entitled to the money back you paid for it. if the dealer wishes to offer a deal. ie an upgrade to the next model at a very good price then thats up to you. It may be worth speaking to a solicitor and paying a couple of hundred pounds for some advice and perhaps a letter to the dealer to let tham know you are serious.
Sorry to hear your LR experience is not going as planned but other makes (mercs, BMWs etc) have problem cars as well. However (and I am propbably going to be corrected) I think the customer service is better, any car can have a fault, it's how it's dealt with that makes the difference. Best of luck.

I have my old FL2 replaced one year after initial purchase and 36.000 K's on the clock due to a vibration issue. I did not pay anything for replacement.

You should get a new one without paying anything. 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone

on no account be tempted to give them any more money.

if they go on about betterment, etc just demand all your money back instead of a replacement and buy something else.

they've sold you a lemon and need to rectify the situation to your satisfaction.

As so many people have commented you have kept your side of the deal and paid them a large wad of cash - all they need to do is keep their side and have supplied a car that works properly.

I'm sure if any of your cash had been faulty they would have been knocking at your door quick enough!!!! 2002 Honda VFR800

That did make me Smile

Thanks for the replys guys.

No figure has been mentioned yet, although my dealer did state that it would be "neglible" if it was anything at all. My cynical side thinks that my pants are about to be pulled down. I won't jump the gun even though I have a bad feeling about this, they could still come back to me and say that a replacement vehicle has been ordered and will be with me soon.

Goddamnit, I am an optimist.........

Like I said before, my dealer has been superb so far..... it just remains to be seen whether or not they are still superb if LR decide not to play ball.

I have been in contact with Lucy from the Honest John website and she has said that she will intervene (for a fee obviously) if I want her too as she is on quite good terms with the franchise dealer in my area. I will have to weigh the pro's and con's up of paying her fees against a neglible amount.

Is it just me or should we not have to go through all this s**t if we buy something that is clearly faulty.

If I don't get what I want then I will probably go down the route of a complete refund and involve trading standards. Then when it snows this winter i'll be stuck like everyone else without a competent 4WD.......mind you, Cambridge doesn't often get much snow Idea

Bananaman... is this Marshall's? I've not had too much bother with them. Mind you - I've not had the problem you've got. They've always looked after me. Freelander 1 TD4 HSE - gone, 2 weeks after the Cat.Converter!

Hi Razmabaz,

I wasn't sure what the forum rules were for naming a company. Suffice to say I am dealing with the LR main dealer for Cambridge.
