Rattling leather door trim

I have a very slight but annoying when your ears tune into it rattle coming from the leather (I think, it may be vinyl) arm rest on my drivers door - apply some pressure and the noise disappears.

The car's only a few months old from new so it's under warranty but does seem overkill to book it in especially.

I wondered if anyone's had this before and if so how easy or difficult it might be to fix? I'm wondering if simply re-fitting the trim would do the trick but I can't tell looking at it whether it's removable, or part of the entire door card.

Thanks.

Give it a thump*. It may not fix it (and potentially make it worse), but at least you'll feel better for 0.2 seconds Razz

*I admit that this may not be a very constructive suggestion...

My passenger door rattled all winter long. As soon as it warmed up within the car, the rattle stopped. Fortunately for me, winter has finally passed, so my door is now quiet.

You've got three choices here:

1. Feel like dolt by taking it in for a dealer fix, but rest knowing that your mind won't go bonkers listening to the noise.

2. Do nothing and check yourself into the local emergency room on a weekly basis (for xrays after punching the door panel).

3. Take the door panel off yourself and make the repair. 'Tis pretty easy to do. The panel is typically held in place by plastic snappy thingies, and a screw or two behind the door pulls.

Or fill it with expanding foam. That is what I keep promising to do with mine! Never actually plucked up the courage yet though. 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

I would not advise this method........would interfere with window mechanism/drainage paths, etc

also could invalidate warranty in some respects.

How many tubes/cans would you need to fill the whole of the inside of the FL2? That way there certainly not be any audible rattles. Whistle 2002 Honda VFR800

VERY TRUE!

I wouldn't suggest (even in jest!) using expanding foam instead of oil or diesel Whistle

Next someone will be suggesting using it in tyres to make a repair Rolling with laughter 2002 Honda VFR800

Use a small screwdriver to lever the armrest cover off from underneath, there will be 2 screws under it.Tighten these 2 screws as tight as you can get them and this should cure it.It will take about 2 minutes.Good luck keep off the grass

Looking at it, the trip appears like it may have a retaining screw horizontal on the read edge of the door. It appears to go through the plastic door trim but I can't tell if it also passes through the armrest?

The gap between the bottom of the armrest and the door trim is very fine - I suspect a screwdriver would gouge and leave marks, but assuming I found something a little less likely to do that, how much force is needed and where/what exactly are the 2 screws you're referring to please?

Sorry,we`ve got crossed wires. The arm rest cover i`m referring to is the part you hold whilst closing the door.Look at the bottom of this plastic cover and there is a small hole for a small flat headed screwdriver to fit into.Once you have found this you can lever it off and follow the instructions above. If you get stuck send me a PM and i`ll e-mail a photo of exactly where it is.

Forget the horizontal screw, that goes into a small plastic part just under the door panel. keep off the grass
