Recently had the 36000 km service done at a non dealer LR specialist. They confirmed a 'clicking' noise in front driveline on near full lock. CV's immediately sprang to mind. I took it to the dealer who also confirmed the noise on LH and RH lock at slow speed as driveline associated and were somewhat concerned. It went in yesterday for an assessment and expecting the worst was surprised when they rang to say that the problem was the wheel nuts??!!!! apparently if they are over torqued with a rattlegun it affects the integral washer causing damage resulting in the clicking/grinding noise. The noise appears to have stopped after fixing the nuts so I guess they were on the money ; according to the dealer they have come across it before on LR but not FL2. I pointed out that the wheels were rotated by a LR dealer at the 24000 km service so perhaps all dealers should be made aware of the problem. Has anyone heard of this before?

Yes I read the posts about front end noise and the solutions seemed to centre around brake pad issues (which weren't resolved I think). Time will tell with this one |

Yeah, my clicking noise seemed to be alleviated after replacing my front pads (with non-genuine ones) but it has now returned from what I can tell (I haven't been in an underground car-park where the noise was extremely obvious, but I have heard the same noise when turning with (any where near) full lock on in other situations).

I went back to Lance Dixon LR where I bought the car. 03 9848 7777 and Tim Schoenemakers? is the service guy I dealt with. I'm unsure as to whether they replaced the washers or nuts but I know they lubricated them before fitting and torqued them by hand.

So, this weekend I took all four wheels off, gave them a good clean to remove all the brake dust, lubed the wheel nuts and put them back on with a torque wrench.

Interesting! I have a very silmilar sounding 'clicking' problem. To be honest, I'd never realised it was only happening when I was turning - But I had pinned it down to being in 2nd gear, revs between 900 and 1900 RPM and only when acelerating...

Have posted a potential fix if you have this issue that Lyntons on the Gold Coast fixed for me here http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic5866-15.html |
