C'mon, he's not the only customer at the Dealership! Electrical faults are the hardest to solve.

Out of interest, is it always at home your car fails to start? Is it a flat battery? Only reason why I ask is that on one of our past Range Rovers, it always had a flat battery. Numerous checks came out with no fault found. Through detective work and the Internet, it turned out that the frequency of the front door motion sensor light on the front of the house operated at the same frequency as the key fob. The light kept energizing the car's alarm, so the car never went to sleep and drained battery. 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

I have experinced underground cables under the road stopping a car from starting where the inductive current from the cables effected the Crank shaft sensor, this was were a car parked out side an industrial unit that had Kilns running !
Also had the same with a BMW parked in a carpark near the Idle of Sheppy where the overhead cables just went underground !
One of my Jags boot used to fail to open on the blipper when parked up against an industrial unit where they had electron microscopes under test !

But none the less the garage should be updating customer daily !

@Triple7

I think you should change your name to Sherlock, it would be more fitting.

It would appear that strange things like you have correctly deduced before, can happen. The dealer contacted me today to find out if I had a bluetooth hands free kit on the car (yes, factory fitted) and did I have it set to auto connect my phone to it (yes) and how far from the house is the vehicle parked (20 feet roughly). It would appear that LR technical dept think that the phone might be waking the car up by connecting and therefore draining the battery (sometimes).

Whilst I initially dismissed this, when I got home from work today, I rang the wife and leaving the car running on the drive with call still connected, I walked into my house (with my phone) and through it to the front door. The call stayed connected even though I was approx 40ft from the car.

Whilst its not proof of anything I am still quite surprised with the range of the bluetooth connection. I also pointed out to the dealer that when LR assist had been out to see me, each time they checked the vehicle went into sleep mode properly, which it did each time.

If it does turn out to be something simple like a rogue iphone4/FL2 bluetooth connection thing then I say look out, Skynet has reached awareness in my Freelander and the machines are coming to get us..................

As Adam savage might say on mythbusters "plausible"

But when a cars been locked the radio is off and I wouldn't think your phone could wake it up, I think it will be the ither way round as There has been a few glitches in the past with radios/satnav not shutting down fully,

have you Noticed any faint glow on a night from the satnav/radio etc Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hi npinks,

I can't say that I have. The first few times it let me down with a completely flat battery, I did check the car at various times afterwards to make sure nothing was amiss but I never found anything had come on nor been left on..

In fact, no internal lights, MP3 player, childs DVD player etc, were ever left on, a fact I did have to state catagorically to the first LR assist chap that came out to me Rolling Eyes

I know it's something that they have to ask, but I always check that everything is off. Might even have a little bit of OCD if i'm honest.

Do you lock your car ? They need to be locked to shut down ? I have foiund some people don't lock them when they park them in the garage ! Have you checked the lights on the sun visors ? The system should go to sleep before the bettery goes flat. It may have a poor earth somewhere causing a relay to hang in flatening the battery.

I always lock the car. A double press of the button. And I always watch my wing mirrors fold in Smile

The car takes about 3mins to shut down so that battery drain is neglible. The LR assist boys have checked it each time but did say that sometimes they can take a lot longer to shut down more completely.

My neighbour has a Range Rover Vogue, it has been draining battery for last few months and not starting. It is my new wireless router that seems to be waking the car, it is more powerful than my old one and with dual frequency, I need to look into this as my car may do the same when it arrives.

We put a digital meter in line with the battery to measure the current drain and you can see the car wake up although nothing physically is evident. Turning off the router and it sits asleep.

If that is the case then LR have an awful lot of potential problems on there hands.

You would think that with the complexity of new vehicles today, they should check that they are shielded better from other systems.

I have read that in some cities there are almost no go areas to park due to wifi signals. It seems to be a big problem when you trawl other forums.

The range rover problem was seemingly adressed by a newew version of the BECM, not sure if it is the same system as the freely.

my property perimeter alarm also interferes with my cars key-fob,

if somebody is tripping the PIR sensor then the key-fob does not lock/unlock the car.

it however has not flatten my battery or had any issue apart from when a sensor went haywire and i couldn't unlock my car, and that was how i found out they block the signal Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

We have remotes for working accessories fitted to the vehicles at work, if we are using them and try to Lock/unlock the vehicle whilst using the remote on the accessories the Key Fobs over ride the remotes for the accessories and stop them working, must be on a similar frequency and the stronger one wins.
