I cannot remember seeing this strap on my previous FL2 but on MY11 it looks to me as if it has been a bit of an after thought. NOT PRETTY MY13- TD4 XS Mauritius Blue, Privacy glass, Cold climate pack, Tailgate spoiler, Armrest pack, LED signature, Body side mouldings, Full size spare and finally Mudflaps

Mines just got a small black loop across the hinge, not bothered as I never drive with the tailgate open so everyone thats following can see it though. |

I can't think of more than 2 reasons now... 1. At high speed, the bonnet is the most exposed piece to the tangent winds and static electricity could accumulate. Then, if you need to open the bonnet, to refill the windshield fluid for example, when you put one hand on the bonnet and another on the car's body.... ouch.... Or imagine the desire for a little spark on a gas station where there are gasoline vapours floating around and the electric charge cries out to equalize with the tip of the fuel gun... So just a little piece of strap to equalize the electrical potentials does wonders... Remember the old days when we used to rub a plastic ruler on head's hair and then attract pieces of paper with the ruller?... 2. On gasoline cars, to reduce the EM interference towards outside world... |
