Mines just got a small black loop across the hinge, not bothered as I never drive with the tailgate open so everyone thats following can see it though.

The rear door is pivoting only on the hinges.
If these hinges are correctly lubed/oiled and then add there a little dust/dirt, then the electrical ground wouldn't be as good as it's needed on the tailgate.
So here is the need of that earth strap.

alex_pescaru,
I agree in what your saying about the tailgate earth strap,

Here a good one for you ( why do rolls-Royce fit an earth strap to there bonnet , with no power needed to the bonnet ??) many other top cars do the same to?? Just a small test ?? Confused

I can't think of more than 2 reasons now...
1. At high speed, the bonnet is the most exposed piece to the tangent winds and static electricity could accumulate. Then, if you need to open the bonnet, to refill the windshield fluid for example, when you put one hand on the bonnet and another on the car's body.... ouch.... Shocked Shocked Shocked
Or imagine the desire for a little spark on a gas station where there are gasoline vapours floating around and the electric charge cries out to equalize with the tip of the fuel gun... Laughing
So just a little piece of strap to equalize the electrical potentials does wonders...
Remember the old days when we used to rub a plastic ruler on head's hair and then attract pieces of paper with the ruller?... Very Happy
2. On gasoline cars, to reduce the EM interference towards outside world...

Well done that man Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down

It was to help stop interference with the cars Radio system on petrol driven cars, with modern
ecu's and radio's etc, its not needed today, but I think Rolls still fit them. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
