Are the plastic brackets:

a) just plastic
b) plastic coated metal

I wouldn't think that just plastic would be strong enough for the job. 2002 Honda VFR800

Yep, npinks is quite right. They are hard plastic held on by one star screw. Obviously there as a comforter rather than any practical use. The 3M tapes works fine, considering I normally haul myself up on the rear bumper by this, so I can wash the roof.

Yes, I stand on the rear bumper, the flat plastic bit. It's fine, no creaking or deformation. I also stand on the Discos rear bumper too.

The silver rear spoiler looks fine, but I cant see any sticky tape not tabs for pulling the backing off. You'll need that to fix it, even the latest edition ones like I got, have it.

Just make sure it's the good stuff and if possible very thin, like the original or you'll end up with a gap.

October'10 I managed to locate in the UK a new rear spoiler which I then had resprayed to Ipanema Sand - cost me GBP£135. Had a set of door handles also supplied at the same time by the same company and also resprayed Ipanema Sand GBP£65.

The rear spoiler has the 2x one black allen screw fixing clamps (and the two large sticky tape panels). Those fixing plates were black painted metal - not plastic or plastic coated. To the clamps I attached black waterproof high density foam pads to prevent the paint work on the inside of the tailgate from being scratched by the fixing plates. I noticed at the time that the spoiler had a "moulding date" stamped on the underside of Yr2009.

The whole installation is very study and secure. I did find that it is best to have a helper when attaching the rear spoiler to the tailgate to ensure the unit is aligned properly.

The fitting instructions show someone making a pencil mark under either ends on the bodywork! I didn't go down that road. I marked off the centre on the bodywork and spoiler and then on either ends on both the bodywork and spoiler. I did it with Sasco year planner strips, so all I had to do was remove the sticky pad things, align up and press down. The one thing you cant do is even lightly stick it to the bodywork and then move it a bit. Put simply, you wont manage it or if you do, the adhesive will loose it's strength!

Yes - it is a ONE SHOT fix, or it won't adhere sufficiently if you have to pull it off and have a second go.
