My mates got a Disco3 and had a blanking kit put on and had the EGR removed, simple job. This increased pulling power and increased MPG. Basically your running on dirty air !!. Im no expert so any opinions would be good, as I'm looking at getting it done to mine

No no no! All FL2's apart from the facelift and DPF fitted cars smoke, but not ALL the time.

The best example I can find is that when the car has been in town, driving steady and on tick over a little, even for short periods, when you put your foot down clouds of smoke can come out the back.

However like Andy 131, when I've been towing there's never any soot on the trailers when I'm done.

Basically, if you drive hard it'll never do it as the soot never has chance to build up, but if you're stuck in traffic for a bit and then go it clears out the soot that's caught in the system. So unless it's using alot of fuel/down on power, it's fine

EGR valves are a stupid solution to get emissions down ever so slightly (at the expense of power and economy!!!)

DPF's are the stupid answer to stop smoke (you guessed it, at the expense of power and economy!) Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Isn't there any danger for the turbo if trhe EGR valve is removed:?:

dont the blanking kits only work on pre 2006 D3?

my guess the fl2 will have sensors that will log a fault Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I think it's something to do with flow sensor in/on/near the EGR body on later models that throws up all sorts of wierd and wonderfull problems if they're blanked off, although I think BAS are working on a solution for later models  ______________________

Be interrested to know as i am thinking of removing to try and increase fuel consumption of 24mpg on Td4 Auto

John F I have an auto 2.2td4 but that sort of fuel consumption is what I get towing ! are you driving it hard ?
I did 160 miles at weekend solo and averaged 42.2 and towing 90 miles 28.4 but that is driving gently and not exceeding 65 tops

No normal driving average 50mpg to work and back

Just filled up and manage 14 mpg on the way back! Very proud of that, I think there is more to life than comparing mpg! It really does not matter, buy a diesel yaris if you want good mpg! It really grinds my gears when people ask me what mpg I get! Usually answer don't know don't care! Its a land rover not a economical it has a purpose.

John, so you say you have managed to half your consumption by just removing the EGR Valve, is that right?

No thinking of it to try and improve consumption

what is the latest thinking on EGR blanking off? I have the TD4e engine and would like to do this if it can now be done without any problems. eh tu?

I am afraid that EGR blanking is not as straightforward as it used to be. New engines nowadays are quite likely to throw a wobbly and a fault code if you blank off the EGR as the ECU thinks there is something wrong. John
