Just had a phone call from the other half. Whilst sitting at traffic lights the sun roof just smashed into pieces. No moving traffic around or yobs throwing stones. It was only because the sun visor was pulled across the occupants weren't covered in glass.

There was a bang as the thing went. Car wasn't moving at the time, who knows what caused it... Getting it into dealer before the rain comes. |

I think a couple of members of the D3 site had this happen to them as well. |

I had a screen go many moons ago before they were all laminated, it just popped for no real reason, for quite a few minutes prior to this I could here this crackling sound, sounded like ice cracking, this went on for 2 or 3 miles then it just popped. No other vehicles around, never did find out the reason. |

Its Posible that one of the runners got stuck in the guides and caused the glass to try and twist which would cause it to shatter with a loud bang |

The sunroof was closed at the time and hadn't been opened for a day or so, so not sure if it could have twisted. The car is in the local dealer now and we are awaiting news of cost etc. At least it didn't rain. |

I have heard of this happening on another make of car. I can't remember what the cause was though.

It can happen on a windscreen if a rogue spot weld around the glass body aperture has a bit flash of metal sticking up or out that was never clean off, then this can put pressure on the glass as the body flexs or reacts to temperture change that can eventually cause it to crack on a laminated or shatter in the case of a toughened glass. |

I don't know yet... I rang LRA when it happened and they sent the AA to clear up the broken glass and take it to the dealer. At this point they are checking to see if it is a fault with the runners etc.
