Tissington Ford knowledge - Athelstan perhaps?

I am going to drive over to Tissington Ford on BH Monday. It's not far from me and we have had a lot of rain today.

So to anyone with knowledge, does it take much rain to get the levels up at Tissington Ford?

Also, have any of you guys been through it? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Doc if you have more heavy rain this weekend then the level at Tissington Ford will be up your wheel arches or higher. Rain yesterday or Thursday will not keep the levels that high at all. Have fun.

ps: call in at "The Gate" in Brassington for a pint of Pedigree.

Thanks Athelstan Thumbs Up

I will also drive over to Clifton where there is another decent ford apparently.

The weather over the weekend will be dry so the levels will doubtless drop again. When the levels are high though, the official wading depth of the FL2 is stated by LR as half a metre. I have heard this is playing it safe though because the air intake is on a level with the side indicators? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Doc - Clifton is normally always higher as it collects its water from other sources.

ps: also try a pint at THE BARLEY MOW KIRK IRETON - not encouraging you or anyone to drink and drive so take a pop drinker with you who can then drive you home..

Thanks again Athelstan.

What is your view on approach speed? Wetroads.co.uk states that tissington can be hit at speed in a 4x4 but clifton can be a rough ride. Rocky base by the looks of things.

Apparently, engaging one of the TR modes will split the power 50:50, perhaps that would be a good idea before wading in. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Doc - bit late in reply (been away for the weekend) but, crossing ford's etc I'd use "Wet Terrain" setting as you have no idea of the type & condition of surface under that water unless you walk it first. Steady and slow is the way to avoid water entering the air intake. Have Fun.

A disappointing visit unfortunately. Both Clifton and Tissington were mere puddles. In fairness the midlands has not seen rain anywhere near as bad as the south or Scotland. It has been consistently dry over the summer with the odd bit of rain here and there and Friday's heavy rain clearly made no difference to the fords.

My plan is to wait until the autumn months which are only just around the corner and when we get some persistent heavy rain I shall return and have another go. Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

There is a Ford near Burford (we often go to a site near their for the weekend) that is always wet, especially if the old boy up the road is watering is garden, all adds to the flow, I wouldn't take the van through it but its no problem for the freely in the standard road Terrain setting. You have to watch it sometimes as the approach road gets very wet where the locals ride their push bikes through it though. Thumbs Up

Good man - but you really didn't need to take a boat attached to the roof in case something went wrong Wink
