MAF sensor replaced

I had been having low rpm poor performance issues on my Freelander 2 76k miles. smoke from exhaust. At the weekend it became a lot worse.

After some checks it turned out that the issue was no longer there if I disconnected the MAF sensor, except the engine warning light comes on, so I purchased a new one and just fitted this evening.

Problem: the engine warning light stays on.

Is this pointing to another problem - vehicle seems fine, or is there a means of resetting the warning light.

Doh .... Wife drove the car around the block, said fault was still thereI had only checked it was revving ok.

So I took it for a drive.

Engine warning light is now off, and the problem is still there.

Poor performance and hesitance at low revs - around 1600-2000
Black smoke when accelerating

Strange as it was working fairly normal with the OLD maf sensor disconnected

The part is genuine new from local LR dealer.

Any help guys

when you fit a new air mass it has to be configured to the car ! disconnecting it will of triggered a fault and stored a code ! not helpful when doing diagnostics.
Most likely EGR valve !

I checked the manual, no mention of configuration for Mass air flow sensor, reversal of installation.

cheap and nasty diag I have says p100 Mass air flow circuit fault, so i'll get it done properly.

Apparently a common fault is that there is a variable geometic rod on the turbocharger that gets sooted up, and it jams, it also gives the same symptoms as I am having, and is consistent with the problem not apparent when I disconnect the MAF sensor.

The diag wil hopefully pinpoint the fault.

Eventually managed to get a proper look at the FL, weather was nice, mood was good Smile

I found a split in the hose leading up to the throttle body, it's a short length about 200mm x 55mm bore reinforced. Phoned local dealer, they will only sell an assembly which is around 」75.

I've done a repair on it until I get some new hose, now driving great again.

You variable vanes on the turbo are prob sticking too, this can be cleaned. But the turbo is a pain to get too

I got lazy and forgot to keep souring the replacement hose Embarassed it's started to leak a little again.

Internal Diameter approx. 57mm
Outside Diameter approx. 65mm
Angle approx. 25 degrees
Length approx. 140mm

Would a straight section of silicone polyester reinforced hose do the job

Working pressure 4.33 Bar
Burst Pressure 13 Bar
