Glove Box Lid

Hi, I have a silly problem that I bet has been discussed before. Suddenly the glove box on my 2012 F/L2 won't open and appears locked, yet not by me. Unfortunately the hand book, which I expect will tell me what to do (nicely), is locked inside. Is there a way to open it please? Thanks in anticipation.[/b]

The glovebox doesn't lock as far as I'm aware! Could something be jammed inside stopping it from opening?

You might be able to pop it from its mountings at the bottom (it's a snap-in fit) and release it that way. Look out for the damper, though.

This picture is of a LHD model, the damper (buffer) will be on the left in your case, maybe something is stuck in the catch? I have had a look at mine and it cant really jam from anything in there?

Many thanks for the tips, I had not realised it wasn't lockable. Something must be jammed as I still can't open it, even a heavy fist on the door won't shift it. Any more tips?

Try pressing the top of the door against the clip (as if closing, this should "unload" the unwanted contact with the fixed part of the dash) while grabbing the bottom of the door with the palm of your hand on the main part of the door. Now "shake" with your bottom hand to try and rattle the things inside around a bit - not just a one-off hit.

This works on our kitchen draw when a long knife, spoon or fish slice has got itself up aginst the worktop preventing the drawer from opening. Worth a try.

As previous posts, the hinge point is in the picture and the door is held in by soft rubber "thimbles" each side that run in wide slots on the mating sides of the main dash panel, again as pic. Easy to prize apart by hand when the door is open but you'll need some care and 2 thin levers with the door closed. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Im wondering if it isn't something lodged in the box but the actual catch on the lid that has failed.
