'Smell' whilst using Snow mode

Just done a round trip of app 40 miles in fairly heavy snow thus a large part of journey in 'GGS'
noticed about half distance 'smell' like an electrical smell
it went when out of GGS mode but when switched back returned

Any suggestions ( helpful ones please !)

Thanks 2011 XS,Sumatra Black, GONE MARCH 2014- RR Evoque Prestige 5 door ,MY 2014,Loire Blue, Silver Roof, Panoramic roof.

Could it have been the brakes you were smelling? GGS + DSC can use the brakes fairly aggressively in deep snow.

Not braking to slow down, but braking to avoid slip whilst accelerating/holding speed in deep snow.

Could also be snow build up in the arches/brakes potentially? Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

The fl2 controls wheel spin on snow by detecting a spinning wheel and braking that wheel. Thus it can be using the brakes even if you're not. In deep snow, with GGS and DSC on, it can even end up braking all wheels to the point at which the car stops! (Had that happen!) I had a slight smell which I think was the brakes under similar circumstances recently.

In deep snow it can sometimes help to turn off the DSC. Don't forget to turn it back in ASAP though.

This idea of turning DSC off...yes that is correct advice, but only if the car has pretty much stopped with it on!

No one seems to add the advice that you only do it as a last resort Thumbs Up Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

I'm so glad of this post. I was out last week and whenever I stopped there was a bit of a smell in the car. The roads weren't particularly bad - but then maybe the FL2 was doing a bit more than I thought!

I had that smell with my last Freelander whilst playing in the snow using GGS.

2 months later the clutch and DMF went. Hopefully, you won’t have the same problem. A Land Rover owner since 1988
