CG that sounds as if some one "is having a laugh" as I did this very thing in March 2009 and had all the bits replaced for £2377 by a main dealer and fortunatly I am insured with Land Rover Insurance (Royal Sun Alliance) and they paid out for it except for my £300.00 excess. OK well good news. 'AA Fuel Assist' came and drained the tank/s. They put £12 of diesel back (about a gallon on todays prices!!). They also included an additive.

Yes, and the reset tool is located in the boot so make sure you have it else you're stranded as it closes the filler pipe up. |

I'll never live it down, I had a 50 50 mix of petrol and diesel, and drove for 20 miles. Had it drained and refuelled, one year on no problems since. I was however running with the 2 stroke in for the first time, so this may have saved some of the critical components, who knows. Now can we never speak of this again. Don't put petrol in a diesel. They don't run well. |

The reason that LR charge so much is that they dismantle the engine and replace every seal in the fuel system as the petrol dissolves them - if they didn't you could eventually end up with a very vigorous fire under the bonnet. And it might only cost £4k for a Freelander2 - it's £8000 for a TDv6 engined D3-4 or RRS. You never could misfuel a TDv8 FFRR as they have had the mis-fuel device since launch as so many Land Rover test drivers misfuelled the mule TDv8s during testing ruining the engines..................... for some reason best known to LR, the TDv8 RRS didn't have the mis-fuel filler mod. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

To answer the question about how they drained the fuel out. From what I could see the Engineer disconnected the fuel line at the engine and drained from there. I believe they also did something to get the fuel out of the dual tanks. Not very technical I'm afraid. I was called away so I didn't watch.

Anyone using Shell needs to have their wits about them, the Shell Fuelsave Diesel markings on the pump are very similar to the Shell Fuelsave Unleaded, both use Yellow background, both use the same green text the only difference is a little bit of black below the text along with the unleaded having a green bit of plastic on the nozzle and the diesel having black, very easy to pick up and fill with the incorrect one if you are not concentrating. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior |
