Two quick question please. New Freely delivered on Wed!

New Freely arrives on Wednesday. Touch wood.
It is being delivered as it would be a royal pain for me to get up to the dealership by public transport.

I've never bought a new car before from a dealer so :

1) Do I pay the whole balance prior to delivery? That is what the dealership is asking me to do.

2) The dealership where I am buying the car from is an 80 mile round trip so in case of any issues are my local dealership obliged to sort them out? I assume so.

Regards, Scott.

In my experience, a dealer (or anyone else, for that matter) selling a car wants to be sure they have the money off you before releasing the vehicle (cleared funds is the usual term).
Any dealer will carry out warranty work on Land Rover`s behalf, and normally be happy to do so as it will be a good earner for them when LR pay. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

Welcome to the club, (little early but it saves sending it again on Wednesday), but still best to get in there first.

1) You should be able to take a Bankers Draft on the day of collection, or as I did pay by cheque a few day earlier as there was no cost of the Bankers Draft. Very Happy

2) Any LR dealer will sort out the warrenty problems, this will cover any extras that have been fitted prior to delivery as these have to same 3year cover.

If there is any issues such as damage or missing items there dealer who sold you the car would have to be the one who sorts it out.

I always have found by going back to the dealer where i purchased it from, i have a better level of service

Your bank will still most likely require a authorisation call to confirm the payment on the day too, when the dealer puts through the amount they'll ask you your security questions etc.

Don't forget to write down your pin number and keep it with your switch card.

I'll also need to know: Which dealer, what time, what you'll be wearing so I can send somebody round to help you carrying that heavy bank card Twisted Evil Rolling with laughter

What speck have you gone for, colour interior, gadgets, extras ie. towbar????

Another way is to pay by a credit card, if you get points and the dealer doesn't charge for this.

Think of the airmiles or tesco points you would get...............

Obvious you would need to have a credit limit high enough to do this Cool

PIN number is written on back of switch card.

My home address is also on the tag on my house keys.. Wink

GS - couldn't justify the XS.
+ Black Leather. Makes the car feel like its worth twice the amount. Interestingly my local dealer in Surrey can now do a complete leather fit for around a grand (versus £1750). It looked the dogs parts too on the demo vehicle they had. I also considered the tan leather but then also considered the 2 year old sat in the back with a packet of chocolate buttons....
+ sunroof. I enjoy star gazing.e
+ privacy glass.
+ tread plates. Bling!

Got a what I thought was healthy 10% of the list price via a broker.
It has taken 2 months from order date. Touch wood. It might turn up in that silly orange colour Wink

Plus some other bling bits I've bought which I will fit when its arrives:

Clear side repeaters. How did I get that one past the wife?
Exhaust Trim. From Nick in Yeovil (very nice man). An equally Essex boy purchase. Embarassed

I'm about to step out and get the Garmin Nuvi 660T and spend a happy weekend ripping the centre console to pieces..... I've seen ALL the posts so I'll blame you lot if it all goes pear shaped.

...and if anyone sees a set of 18" HSE 12 spokes going cheap....

Thanks for listening. Smile
S.

I have never paid before delivery - except a deposit. I always check the car before paying balance with a debit card - Dealers charge a fee for credit cards.

The last 2 new cars I bought were 200 miles away from me to get best price Very Happy

No problems with present car but last one was missing extras paid for so had to make 2 trips but did get a full tank of fuel, roof box and crossbars as goodwill gesture, so worked out ok Thumbs Up

Problems can usually be sorted with a local dealer if it is a factory spec item but things like extras purchased from another dealer can be a problem.

Don't listen to the wife get the clear repeater, they do look nicer, (still need to get mine Sad )

Sounds like a nice spec, you'll have to gets some pictures up the Gallery.

I think I saw some 18" Alloys on eBay obn sunday, but might have finished now, though they is often a set on there.

My dealer (Armstrong Massy, York) have a deal on the Shadow 19" £1300 I think, so not so cheap

My Dealer wouldnt let me pay by CC, UNLESS they added something like 2% to the price...so I paid via Debit card on the day...

They will (Well mine did) insist on a covernote of insurance a couple of days prior to collection...1) So they know its Insured & 2) so they can apply for road-tax. '57 FL2 GS

Yep. I'm facing the same situation.

Unfortunately my dealer is not accepting a fax of the cover note from Directline and he wants 'a colour scan' emailing. Which would be fine if I had any of the docs myself yet...

I guess I will have that argument tomorrow.....

Surely directline can email a copy direct to the dealer - Land Rover Insurance do and they don't need the info about the dealer, they are all already in the LRI database. In fact I was the one who had no copy of the insurance until after my new car was delivered! You need to kick Directline up the butt and tell them to get into the 21st century. Insurers know that dealers cannot register the car unless the tax office has the ORIGINAL insurance cover note or certificate of insurance so why won't they email them? How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Hi Tim.

I have some sympathy with the call centre staff as they said that the system they had didn't support the generation of PDF docs on their local machines which they could then email. I work in IT on designing call centre insurance applications so I've only myself to blame... Embarassed

They were actually quite helpful and said that if I hadn't got the docs tomorrow to call back and they would see what they could do.
