Visit to the dealers

Sent car in today to have Q106 and to check a couple of things and they are sending it home having done nothing and telling me I need a new steering rack!!!

Also they have a advised that my broken key is.. er broken and I'll need a new one! No sCensoredt sherlock... What has upset me though is that they claim that the Landrover approved used warranty wont pay out!

Where in the approved used warranty policy does it say not including keys?? I'll be fighting this tooth an nail as I did not pay a premium for an approved used warranty to be told things like this Evil or Very Mad

Any one esle had new steering racks? Did the car work OK when you got it back?

Also has anyone else tried to get a new key on the approved used warranty? Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Hi i had a problem with a seat and was also told that the approved used warranty would not pay for it, whats the point in having it if all they say is we wont pay for that.

Scotland 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Stornoway Grey

Not had any issues with my Freelander as it is still only 6 months old, but recently had a similar issue with my wife's 4 year old Cooper S which has a mini extended warranty. The factory fitted 2 panel electric sun roof jammed open in torrential rain 200 miles from home, fortunately a local garage helped get it closed.

When we took it to the dealer they reckoned that the entire frame had warped and a complete replacement was required. They contacted mini for authorisation and were told that it was an external electrical component and not covered.

My first question was can you show me that as a specific exclusion in the warranty description and explain the definition of an external electrical component, the dealer also agreed that they could not understand how a factory fitted sunroof can become an external component. BMW agreed to reconsider and after about 2 weeks accepted that it was covered by warranty.

It might be worth asking LR for written confirmation of the where keys are listed as exclusions.

Had a new steering rack on my 07 manual SE. Apparently there was/is a problem with the weld on some early production steering racks which causes bits to come loose and block the power steering filter/reservoir. First stage is to replace filter/reservoir then the steering rack. Cost was quoted at £900 for the steering rack and labour but got my done free even though it was out of warranty by 3 months thanks to some good work by Marshall Bedford arguing my case with LR.

Steering was fine after it had been replaced but then again it wasn't that bed before it was replaced either.

Cheers guys - snowy, I will be definitly doing as you said as I have checked the policy and no where can I see it exclude keys... In fact I have an e-mail to the selling dealer dating back to when it was under manufacturers warranty saying I thought the key was on its way out then.. I wonder if this is enough grounds to claim it was a pre existing fault?

Lets see what they say - fingers crossed i'm worrying over nothing Rolling Eyes Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

everyone email your dealers telling them that , the brakes are dodgy, you think the cluch might be going, the steerings funny, and so on, every possible fault you can think of .

Then if it does fail out of warranty its a previously mentioned problem Thumbs Up

do not mention having a towbar though Confused thats an instant get out of jail for the warranty people Thumbs Up At work

Had a new steering rack, power steer pump, idler pulley and reservoir fitted a few weeks back (5?).
She came back a lot quieter, cleaner, and working just fine.

Dealer had a bit of fun with LR about fitting all the items rather than just a rack, but no sweat for me, didn't get involved, just drove around in the loan FL2 until it was done.

Idler pulley failed and had to be transported to stockport, when Guy Salmon had replaced the pulley the noise from the rack and pump became obvious - to them at least, I drive with the music up between 20 and 35, so engine noise is never going to be a problem.
For that matter a wheel would have to physically fall off before I noticed a wheel bearing rumbling. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
