rattle from roof lining or sunroof?

Hello - some advice needed please.

I have developed a really irritating rattle that seems to be coming from either the roof lining just behind the sunroof, or possibly from the sunroof itself. It seems to go away when the roof is tilted open. I have pushed and hit the roof lining as hard as I dare, thinking it may be a clip loose, but to no avail. Could it be coming from wiring leading to the alarm sensor?

Has anyone else had this and what was the fix?

Thanks - and happy new year!

I had a clip loose and it's needed lining up prior to hitting and was awkward to line up too Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

If i'm right there was a recall on the Sunroof. Not sure why but a trawl on this forum will tell you.

My FL2 developed a rattle during the snowy/icy weather. I traced it to be a piece of ice that was loose but not loose enough to come away from the runner on top. The result was a 'wobbly' piece of ice, tapping on the roof ....driving me mad!!!!

Gone now Smile

I thought it was ice but it's all defrosted now and rattle still there. Seems to be worse when it's cold so might have something to do with different amounts of contraction / heat expansion.

Npinks: how did you line up the clip - I can't seem to see it.

By touch, but it kept coming out, as I think it needed replacing

Eventually I took to the dealers, as the rattled started after the sunroof recall and they sorted it

Same noise here, but my garage is heated. Mine appears when it's below freezing, and I'm driving on slightly bumpy roads.

I started to experience a similar rattle when the weather turned cold last November. As others have said, it is only heard when driving on bumpy or slightly bumpy roads. Strange thing is it doesn't occur until after I've been driving the car for about 20-30 minutes. By then the interior has warmed up. Not sure where the sound is coming from but it is definitely from the rear and sounds like it could be related to the rear sunroof or windows. I have checked all of the glass -- windows, sun roofs -- and everything seems very snug. Can't figure this one out at all and it's getting to be very annoying.

I may have the answer to your prayers.
Had similar problems with the rattle. When sitting in the drivers seat, it sounded like it was above the passenger seat. When sitting in the passenger seat, it sounded like it was coming from the back somewhere. Stopped when the sunroof was open. It only rattled when the road was a bit rough which was quite often.
In the last couple of months, our local dealer had the roof lining off a couple of times but to no avail. Sad
Last month, they ordered new parts for the sunroof, (no idea what parts before anyone asks) fitted, and now you can hear that pin drop. Bow down Out with the old (2007 SE)
In with the new (2012 Dynamic with everything). Now also gone.

I recently cured an annoying rattle which sounds v similar but seemed to only sound loud in cold weather! Also, in my case opening sunroof didn't help stop it.
When roof grab handles unscrewed and removed the roof lining can be pulled down a little without removing. I had a small square plastic clip near sunroof which wasn't doing much, so clipped it off. That seemed to cure it.

Had this on my old 59 Reg FL2. But only when traveling on gravel tracks, It was the sunvisor vibrating against the headlining, pushed it down, pretended it was sunny, and when I got back on the tramac I just pushed it back up! Replace the clips that hold in the alarm sensor assembly and this should solve the problem.

Mine did this and the clips solved the problem. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
