I've noticed when you first unlock it and don't open a door it will lock itself after about 30 seconds.

I presume this is an inbuilt safety feature. Question ______________________

I have had my FL2 for 7 months now, just approaching 12k. (Luv it!) The doors self lock after driving a few yards but the doors have never self locked at completion of a journey. Until the last fortnight, that is . As a rule, I don't lock my car whilst it is in my garage. It doesn't do it everytime, but when walking away I can hear it 'clunk' and the mirrors retract. I have eliminated pocket activation of the fob by leaving that on the garage bench ... It still locked. It worries me the fob and my keys are going to get locked in there soon. If it is an optional security feature. How do I turn it off again?

I have accidentally not locked my car overnight once before, it never locked itself.

It seems strange that a car would do this, i would speak to your dealer.

I would defiantly lock my car each night whether or not it was in a garage, I bet your insurance company would consider not paying a claim if it was not lock, as there is no forced entry if it was stolen.

Self locking usually only occurs if you unlock the car, but then do not open any of the doors or boot, after a minute or two if no activation of the hatches it locks itself again.

That isn't happening on mine. Just unlocked the car, didn't open the doors. Nothing happened after ten minutes. Locked it again. Paused. Double unlocked, didn't open a door, nothing happened after ten or so mins.
It's perishing out there !

Put load on the floor go to open boot....barstard thing has locked itself!!! So back in the house for the keys!! Just been out to time the self locking, 60 secs.....yeh like you say bloody fresh out there too!! Brrrrr!! Laughing

Thanks carlfraz. As coincidence would have it, I took the car in for its first service yesterday morning. I was able to report on my 'locking' problem. Apparently the software upgrade is the cure-all. We'll see!
Incidentally, it was detained overnight due to their having to further investigate the leak from the sun roof. I find out this aftenoon that it has to stay another day to await a windscreen specialist to remove the whole sun roof. I suspect this may be worthy of another string, perhaps a little later. Thanks again.

Not wishing to add to your woes Freelander2hoo ....but ...after your software update keep an eye on your mpg a number of people have noticed it seems to drop by anything up to 4 mpg Shocked hope you can avoid this little 'update extra'..... look forward to reading your Sunroof saga thread Laughing Thumbs Up

Hi Goldstone69.
Yep... The sunroof may well be turning into a saga. Day 3 and the dealership has just phoned. The car is with them for a while longer as the sunroof needs to be replaced. That is now on order. I expect they will have to nick one off the assembly line as I don't imagine there will be too many of them hanging about on shelves... I will be back when I know more!!! Arrrrgh!

To be expected the technicians at my dealership could not replicate the problem. However, following the software upgrade delivered during the service it will now relock after a short period if the doors are not opened after the remote lock is released.

One important point raised by the Sevice Manager is that the car should always be locked, even if left overnight in a secure garage. The reason being that locking the car puts certain functions i.e system and safety scans in to sleep mode to preserve battery life.

Hope that gem is of assistance. Firenze Red XS TD4 01/2013 . Averaging 1800 miles per month. My 5th Freelander in 11 years. Devotee?
